Yes I'm a shopaholic, but I'm more addicted to bike bits, DVD's and CD's than clothes. That's not tarty....it's blokey!!! OK, I have the same shirt in 3 colours and the same jumper in 2 colours to wear over the shirts, but that doesn't make me a tart!!!

BigAl - didn't you like Aston Hill? I might go there next sunday if I'm allowed 2 bike rides next w/end. [:p]

    davydesign,
No I didn't enjoy Aston Hill at all - for a number of reasons.

First of all I felt really out of place surrounded as I was by all those guys, covered in bodyarmour, riding massive DH bikes. I really felt like the XC jeyboy. I was the only person riding the XC course.

Secondly and most importantly I was nearly decapitated by a rope strung between two trees. The rope was on the XC trail just before it crosses the bottom of the 4X course. At this point I was so fecked off that I b*ggered off home.

So the only part I rode was the first mile or so of the XC course through the bombhole area.
I'm not embarassed to admit that I found this section quite tough. It's much tighter than I'm used to and I didn't think it had any flow to it. Not knowing the course I was constantlty coming round corners and finding myself in the wrong gear for a sharp incline or something. My arms got very tired on this section very quickly.

I'll happily admit to not being a particularly good technical rider and maybe the rest of the course would have been more fun.
How do you find that first section?

I also felt like the only XC person there when I went (although it was a practice day for a DH race at the time).

My first lap was a bit of a steep learning curve but I did 4 laps in total during the day and by the last lap I was pretty comfortable with the DH section. Although the DH guys were yelling at me to pedal more on the DH bits [;)]

To be honest the rest of the course is pretty lame, basically just twiddle back up the hill you ride down at the start with some steep climbs and some twisty singletrack.

I'm thinking of heading down there to have a go on the DH runs this weekend - I've got arm pads now [B)]

I think for XC riding tho you can't beat the trail me and TheBigGT did on saturday.

For those who like a little variety and some fun at the end of a ride, I have found some dirt jumps in the Wendover area!!! Complete fluke of a find, we were just exploring after taking a ride with Kazoo's daughter. They need a little repair, so I will be up there in the week, seeing what I can do. There are also a couple of pubs just a few minutes ride away, so once they are all sorted I'd love to get a few of us together for a ride, then some DJ fun followed by a few bevvies. I'll try to sort out a route over the next week or so and put up some waymarkers (providing Buckingham Bikes/Forestry Commission have no objections) so we can try to have as much variety of terrain and as much fun as possible, with the route leading nicely to the dirt jumps at the end. Will keep you informed of how it's going.

Probably not too much riding, though and I still have to survive the 'Bucks 100km/70km' this Saturday first!! [B)][xx(]

Anyone up for that? With the weather this week, I'll probably go for the sensible option and do the 70km, anyone fancy having a (gasping/bleeding/swearing*) riding partner?

Actually the sensible option would probably be a lie-in and an afternoon at my sister's being fed and beered! But I've not been known for being sensible too often...[:p][:o)]
