I have just bought the "rough guide" book of MTB routes in the south east, which includes places like Tring, Princes Risboro etc. If any of you fancy going for a ride at some point let me know..... feel free to mail me via the site.

I am escaping from NW London to the (relatively) green fields of Bucks, between Uxbridge and Slough (OK, so the Lakes it ain't!) in a few weeks time and may well take you up on that!!

It will be nice to see green things again and not have traffic roaring past the house 22 hours per day...

I bought the book too (cheap thru MBR with the maintenance section thrown in free) and am looking forward to getting out and making t he most of the routes out there!

Did you get my email about 3 weeks ago? Isn't it about time we went for a ride?

Have you managed much riding recently? How about we head out that way soon? Trail Ride on Saturday at Woodcote?

    Guys,
I have to make the most of my evenings this week as I have to get sorted with my packing/tidying before I move and have my new Hone crankset and El Camino brakes to fit on my bike...[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

    Dave,
I was thinking about buying the Diatech hydaulic brakes (reviewed positively in WMB or MBR a couple of months back) just because you can get them in white (!!) which would have been either very pimp or just very pants and poncy!
So I went for the Hayes, they still look the biz even though they are not white and they've had pretty good reviews. [8D][8D]
Seem as though they should have more than enough power and easier to get pads/parts/etc too. They should even stop my lardy weight!

Oh, and they are brand new and about a third of the RRP!

  • I may be in on this too. I'm in Stokenchurch so P. Risborough is just a stones throw from me.

I tend to ride in the Christmas Common & Pishill areas and over towards Watlington too

Wendover woods are pretty good too from what I've heard - though I've not ventured that way - don't know why.

There's also the Aston hill centre (near Aylesbury) though I've heard it's not great in the wet.

  • BigAl - Christmas common area is one of my fave places to ride round bucks. I normally do a loop starting at the Car park at the Sculpture trail and down towards Northend, turville etc. Lucky you living so close [8D]

BigGT - are they the Hayes 9? Supposed to be pretty good, rode a Kona with them on a while ago and from what i remember they were much better than my Deores.

Would be good to get a group together - anyone out this Sunday?
  • davydesign - yeah lucky me [:D]

Do you do the climb up to Northend [xx(]

I may be about on Sunday - I'll email if I am

Yeah i normally do that climb, but with all the rain its pretty slick at the mo so normally end up spinning to a halt towards the top. haha.

There's a worse climb going from the ridgeway up towards Christmas Common, but i make sure i go down that instead of up now - its a helluva long drag.

Do you mean the one that has a sort of grassy field/lawn right at the bottom of it which brings you onto a fireroad which the ridgeway crosses further down?

Last time I came down there I nearly hit a bunch of ambling walkers at the bottom - they looked at me like I was an alien - haha.

Still in NW London for another few weeks but really want to get out this weekend! Have a hospital visit to a relative in Essex to fit in but still want to squeeze a ride in anyway!

When seems the best day for most? And is anyone up for the Evans Trail Ride at Woodcote on Saturday morning? Just thought it would save us having to work out a route!

I'll check the situation and post back in the next day or so...

    Cheers,

Having another flick through the rough guide book..... there's a nice looking 90 mile route which they say is worth taking 2-3 days over. If anyone's up for a full weekend of riding next month there's loads of accomodation available along the route or I have a tent that will sleep 6 (at a push) with some storeage space in the middle for bags and bikes.

Thanks to Luke W I now have the maps for the Jenny Copnall ride in WMB 68. If it's dry over the next few weeks will probably attempt it on 31st March or 1st April (Sat/Sun) if anyone else is up for a day in the saddle.

It's actually a 4 berth with 2 bedrooms, but if you sleep the wrong way round it will sleep 6. Would need to seperate it between 2 riders though to make it manageable on climbs.

Don't know if it's been noticed as missing, but there's no serial number so I should be safe!!!

I reckon I'll be up for a 2/3 dayer - but later in the year.

Also I don't fancy carrying even half a 6 man tent on my bike. Much better IMO to stage it with cars set up at camp points.
