Look for accident damage, service history, do a HPI check to make sure it isn't nicked or has outstanding finance or has been in an accident, get an expert to look over it (RAC/AA mate who's a mechanic etc) also get a bog standard non chavved up one.

They look a hell of a lot nicer than there replacements. The new C3's look like Micra's to me. Hideous.

I don't mind them too much, not as chavvy as Corsa's.

Gearboxes are always an issue with saxos. Apart from the fact they're not particularly quick, and don't handle very well, and don't survive well in a crash!
but the biggest issue is that you'll look like a proper chav. So why not go the whole hog get it painted burberry.

Slapbassmunky is right, if you want the craziest hatch there ever was, get the pug 205 GTi - those things are damned fun, and will still whip the arse off of most anything modern if you're into racing.

Alternatively, if you just want a quick, fun, cheap car (and you can find one) get a renault 5 GTX, not GT-turbo. They've got a 1700 engine, and go like stink, but because they're relatively rare and are a 5-door, they're stupidly cheap to insure.

I know a Nova is even more chavvy than a saxo, but my mate has just put a 2 litre redtop engine in his, and fu[url][/url]cking hell does that thing fly!

205 GTi would be nice, make sure it's a 1.9.

im 17 and was planning on buying a 205 gti from a scrap yard and fixing it up for fun. but then i found that the cheapest insurance quote was œ4000 so that idea went out the window

At that age, with that little experience do you really need a car like that? I don't think it's a good idea, I drive and am 17. You can have fun in just about any car anyway.

saxo vtr is a mint 1st car
people are slating them but i have 2 friends with VTRs and theyve never had any major problems with them

although the guy who i bought my corsa off said he had a VTR before hand and it was wank and he hated it

and who the fuck cares about a cars safety. just dont crash!!

Of course you should care about a cars safety. It's your life you are managing!

You don't need a powerful/fast car anyway. Never do you. Pretty much any car will do, especially for your first car. You want something that doesn't go fast easily, else you'll find yourself in a hedge sooner than you think.

The only time you need a "specific" vehicle is:
Farming
Military
Road Haulage

And even then, none of those vehicles are particularly fast.

New drivers at 17 are very likely to not be in any of those categories.

got me a 2002 corsa sxi, cheapest i could get to insure (still bloody expensive), looks not bad standard (in black of course

) and isnt too slow for a 1.2i. had "chantelle" doin 107mph with 2 other people in the car with me.
