...then bends round to the right and left again and you come across another little farm, through there straight on, then follow the track down the hill to the left, follow along for a while and you come out on a small road and turn left.

After about 1km you come across another bridle way/farm track on the right hand side and follow that til you come out onto the road to the air field. Go along the road about 100m and there's another track and dilapidated building on the left.

It might be a bit overgrown but you used to be able to go down there to the bottom then turn right across some fields til you come out onto the farm track that takes you past the fishing lake and into yarwell camping site.

Otherwise go along the road and turn in a bridleway on the left just after the air field which takes you to the same spot. (I think that's right!) [:p]

you have to go through the gate and through the little farm (between the hay barn and the brick building). The track continues afterwards round to the left...

    Good directions ojoj.
I don't know if i can get out this weekend, but is anyone up for a meet up a week on sunday. It would be good to meet other riders in this area, I have lived in Peterborough for 12 years and not met up with any yet. All my riding buddies live at least an hour away. We could maybe meet at wakeley say.

I did mean Wakerley, and the woods. Wakerley is just the other side of Fine Shades near King's Cliff on the side of the A43 North of Corby. It doesn't have to be there, see who's interested and what the preference is.

No I live in Peterborough, I suppose due to the lack of good riding around here i've got use to travelling, anyway it's not that far, ok you wouldn't want to ride out there and then do the woods, but it's only 20 minutes in the car.

Acac, I'm up for a jaunt for a few hours on Saturday (I assume you mean tomorrow). If you're up for it we can meet at Ferry Medows visitor centre ~7:15am? Hopefully it'll dry out after today and the riding will be somewhat betterdown that way.

Grab me on my MSN (Mikebert4@hotmail.com) if you get this (that goes for any of you looking for a ride :p)

FYI: The best riding is to be found in the nature reserve, which means keeping an eye out for prowling conservationists! The area isn't run by a gamekeeper, but regular surveys of the fauna/flora do take place, so 9/10 you'll be fine, but keep an eye out and remember these people will be as scared about kicking you out as you will be of being kicked out so be poilte, a little manners goes a long way in working out some kind of arrangement with English Nature (who run the reserve)

Unfortunately I'm in France from Monday for two weeks (\o/) and hence won't be able to come to Wakerly at all (or I would offer to drive some people). Let me know how it goes, and if any kind of gathering is planned for on/after the 8th of July I'll be around again :)

Until then, unless you get me on MSN... *waves*

    Mike out.

Well i got my lazy ass down to ferry meadows for about 8ish, didnt see anyone about so head down to Yarwell along the route that has been suggested and managed to get lost. Well not lost, i knew where i was, and i knew where i needed to be but the 2 just didnt sync up[:D]

I followed ojoj's directions this far:

"...then bends round to the right and left again and you come across another little farm, through there straight on, then follow the track down the hill to the left, follow along for a while and you come out on a small road and turn left....."

I turned left but could not see any bridleway etc on the right hand side after about a 1km, do you mean the bit where there is a gate and there is horses in the field to the right of it? If you could give some more detail it would be appreciated anyone. In the end i went to the end of that road where you come out onto the road to Elton and came round on the road to the airport and then threw a left down towards Yarwell Mill, so that bit i know....

Anyways, just got in with 45 miles on the clock so going to pass out now[:)]

Jamieayres if you can wait until next sunday i'll show you the route. In fact if anyone is up for it there's a route I've been looking at and been meaning to try, it could take in the bridleway from Chesterton but will cut back to Elton, through to Warminton then Ashton etc. I don't know how well this will ride or even if it's ridable. But hey nothing ventured nothing gained!

I would imagine i will be about next weekend mate....sounds like an interesting trail you got in your head there. I am trying out a trail that goes theu ferry meadows > thru castor hanglands > helpston (seems to be some woods and stuff round this way)> thru southey woods (not even sure if thats possible going to check tomorrow) > then down towards sacwrell water mill > over the a47 > under the a1 into wansford > yarwell > old sulehay then god knows[:D]

Still cant believe i couldnt work out the way earlier tho....saying that had a little ride round the nature reserve...looks like someones been building down there.

  • I was up at Thetford yesterday, live in Cambridge so can get up there in about 30 minutes, but have only been up there a handful of times, is always a good outing though. Yesterday we pulled off at Elvesden (left at the crossroads in the village) and about a mile or two up is free parking on the right hand side. Must say, we picked up the 'black run' and I wouldn't say its black but hey its a trail and its what you make of it, i'm pretty unfit at the mo so it was enough to challenge me if I hammered it, some good bomb holes too. There are so many places to explore round here, I would highly recommend checking out the whole area, don't pay for parking just pull up wherever you see somewhere to dump your car! Then follow your nose...

Or alternately, park in the Brandon Country Park car park which is free and where your a lot less likely to get your car broken into and you can get yourself a nice cup of tea and cake from the cafe, after your ride.
