I was surprised at two levels by one of the headlines (BBC, I think) along the lines of "Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon ground offensive"
Firstly, jeez, what do you expect? Secondly, what about the Lebanese killed?

i had exactly the same thought
israel attacks [insert densely populated civilian area], where enemy fighters, politicians etc. live/plan/attack - the enemy were using human shields, we had no choice but to kill a few thousand innocents
enemy attacks israeli city, where mossad, armed forces, politicians etc. live/plan/attack - look, the evil enemy are attacking civilians
they've spent decades dehumanising everyone else
i used to strongly support israel, but the country has been profoundly corrupted by the 'settler movement' and their political enablers, in any other country we'd call them fundamentalist terrorists
for the avoidance of doubt, that does not mean i support the scum on the other side, between the two it's the, mostly palestinian, civilians who pay the cost
quite a while ago now, israel learned to use people with american/similar accents for much of their western-oriented pr/propaganda, whereas the others usually have people with local accents - helps make it clear to joe public which side are the nasty foreigners, over time it sets attitudes

Erm, Israel *ordering* the evacuation of a town in *another country*? Am I missing something here, but I don't remember that being part of international law...

israeli governments have been ignoring international law for decades
usa/uk/etc. governments are happy with that, and continue to blow their tax payers' money supporting netanyahu et al.

Is that actually correct? There is humanitarian aid going to Israel and other places in the region. But the rest is just international trade isn't it?

The USA gives several billion a year in military aid. The UK doesn't.

we've got our military out there actually fighting on israel's side, that's aside from the cost of protecting our own interests which are targeted as a result

It feels like we're on the final series of game of thrones. Not sure who Jon Snow is though.

i think it'll run and run
at least until israel has killed all the palestinians, stolen the rest of their land, and surrounded itself with a few dozen km of mined wasteland
after that, things will probably calm down in a few centuries

God, I find this just so depressing. I can't help feeling that Israel is eventually going to find out what happens when you bomb the most densely populated centres in all your neighbouring countries and thereby terrorise their populations. It seems that they're going to ignore all calls for any sort of proportionality. Pfft... 1000 civilians for one leader? Their fault for living there.

Apparently hitting Iran isn't as easy as the hot headed cheer leaders think. It's quite a long way, requires flying over Jordan and Iraq/Kurdistan and requires mid air refueling. Israel doesn't have that many fueling planes and the attack will need to overcome all the defenses of Iran.
Meanwhile, it appears 32 Iranian missiles hit the target military airfield, but didn't cause any serious damage; however, missiles directed at something a bit less military would have been seriously damaged.
All of which means that a cooler head might take the win.

I am left pondering just how far Netanyahu has to go to get everyone (US in particular) to say "You've gone too far.".
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0
