Because some parties are national and field candidates nationally and so are appropriate to have on national TV.
Some parties are regional and only field candidates in a certain region and so do not belong on national tv, it’s not difficult.
And polling has everything to do whether you chose to include a party on the debate or not as plainly there are loads of parties who did not make it onto the debate, such as the Yorkshire party, because they plainly do not poll well enough.
That’s why reform gets on the debate, despite not having any MPs.

National vote share - roughly equivalent to polling - is not how MPs are selected. For all the 'about to overtake the Conservatives' Reform has the same number of MPs as the Greens and if they're lucky they might keep that total. The Greens have held their seat for a lot longer than Anderson. There are all sorts of ways you could select representatives for a TV debate and no selection would please everyone. By your criteria there would only be between Labour and Conservative, which would be as dull as the first one.

You do realise we get the same TV in Wales as you do in England other than the regional news and a very few regional programmes? The election is for the national Parliament not the Welsh Senydd.

I think you're in danger of declaring anywhere remotely prosperous as the SE.
The question I'd ask is how Cambridge has managed to escape it's fate as a regional city.

Cambridge is a glorified fen market town that has a weird combination of your classic unfriendly fen locals and an unusual amount of semi transient highly educated foreigners, I wouldn’t dream of calling it anything more than that.
It barely qualifies as a city.

If national share was how they were selected it would make more sense that they were on it. Instead it means the vast majority of viewers are listening to a party they couldn’t vote for even if they wanted to.

The weirdest thing about this is that the Labour leader in the Senedd is governing after a major money scandal and having lost of vote of no confidence.
I only heard about it as the afterthought bit of a niche politics podcast...

Paging @Stevo_666 - if you can bear to read something other than the Telegraph, John Harris explains as well as anyone why you are in a very small minority of people who don't think that the Tories need to bugger off for a long while. Harris's description of Godalming sounds uncannily like Topsham. Harris goes out and talks to real people, and often gets under the surface of what's going on politically.
One fact above all others explains what may happen here on 4 July. Back in 2016, Godalming was part of an area where nearly 60% of voters backed remain. It is not the kind of place where people enthuse about Nigel Farage and wring their hands about immigration and “small boats”. Its dominant middle class is educated, outward looking and fuller than ever of the values that define the capital city where so many local people make their living – conservative with a small “c”, perhaps, but also discernibly modern. What really runs deep, moreover, are shared ideals about business and success, which surely stand in sharp contrast to a ruling party now defined by incompetence, dogma and the dire economic results of our exit from the EU.
Outside the local branch of Caffè Nero, everything became clear in the course of a 15-minute conversation. Next to their mud-encrusted mountain bikes, four sixtysomething men were nursing their espressos and flat whites, and when I asked them about the election, they could barely contain themselves. They spoke in the confident tones of people used to chairing meetings and networking with clients, but everything they said was shot through with a deep sense of loss.
“Jeremy Hunt is a very, very good MP for this district,” said one of them. “But I have a major issue with him in that nobody seems to be talking about the major issue, which is Brexit. Every politician is denying that, and that’s why I can’t vote for him.”

The thing I don't understand is who has been advising the Tories (Sunak in particular) over the last 2 years and suggesting that all this populist rubbish was going to help them electorally? Surely they have access to multiple pollsters, advisers etc. who would gave targeted data that showed this crap was going to cost them the bulk of their support? They have traded in an 80 plus seat majority to keep a tiny percentage of the population happy. I just don't get the rationale behind it if the end game is to win (which surely it is?).

You'd have to suspect that is a good deal of it. Seeing what he is like when questioned (stroppy child), I would think the bulk of the problem is an inability to take any other views on board.

What else do they have? Brexit and Truss have kind of ruined the image of the Conservatives as the slightly dull sensible party that will look after the economy.

If it were just Brexit and Truss, they might just have got away with it (even if I haven't forgiven them for the former). But it's now top to bottom rotten to the core, desperately trying to cling on to the oldies and hard-of-thinking. They made their pact with the devil by trying to appeal to the left-behinders while shovelling lorry loads of £s to their rich mates from the pub. And now the devil is eviscerating what's left of the cadaver as the price to be paid for the pact.
If the polls are borne out, I think I'm going to feel a sense of catharsis on 6 July, albeit knowing full well that a Labour government could still screw things up in the years ahead.

If they can't vote for Hunt because no politician is talking about Brexit then that implies they can't vote for any major party as none of them are interested in rejoining the EU, or talking about it. Although given what appears to be happening in European elections, do the unreconciled Remainers still think that's a good idea?

I suspect you haven't read the rest of the article, given your response. Or if you have, you're studiously ignoring the observation that 'true blue Tory' heartlands are turning red and yellow, the idiocy of Brexit being one of the major indicators of an incoherent and dysfunctional party (along with incompetence, corruption and lying, obvs.)
Obviously I'm not delighted with the far right garnering support across the continent, but we're still going to have to trade with it, and any baby steps to repair the damage done by Brexit will be welcome.
