Mordaunt vs The Ginger Growler might be quite entertaining.

Actually finding myself quite cross about this. If he didn't want to draw attention away from the commemorations why the f*** did he leave early?

I suspect that this is not far from the truth. As I often say, I don't trust people who never express any self-doubt.

Even I had to laugh at this 🤣

To be fair (he says through gritted teeth) raising the level should go some way to mitigating the issue (I'd assume far more people are at the current limit than the proposed one).
I'd just get rid of the earnings cap tbh. We're always hearing about how means tested benefits are tremendously expensive when it comes to the winter fuel allowance, but no such excuse when young people are involved.

I don't think people who are paying higher rate tax generally need child benefit. By all means sort out the individual/household thing which is obviously unfair, but I don't think the threshold needs raising.

Obviously some brain-washed leftie. "It was an act of either colossal stupidity or cynical calculation. Either way, it revealed to me that while I still embrace a conservative philosophy, I am no longer willing to have it outsourced to a bunch of mendacious, incompetent and disreputable clowns."
I must add 'disreputable' to my list of Tory adjectives.

Wonder what the criteria are that meant PC were included in the debate and not DUP or Sinn Fein, both of which got more votes and more MPs at the last election

I mean that's his whole thing: start with something fairly obvious and uncontentious to get you nodding along and then tack a bit of racism on the end.

Presumably he's saying something with the confidence of a man who will never have to put his ideas into practice.

Sure.
Why include the Welsh party?

Blimey, obviously the tactic is just to repeat the lies louder and louder. The tactic makes stuff like this unwatchable.

Ian Dunt disagrees, and thought it useful, even if his view of Mordaunt is less than flattering.
"There are many worse politicians than Penny Mordaunt, but there are very few with less substance. During tonight’s election debate, she threatened at certain points to act like an intellectual black hole, sucking any kind of meaning away from the stage.
The most noticeable thing about her was her hair. She’d somehow constructed a vast Thatcherite bouffant. It was hard to take your eyes off it. The haircut was a perfect approximation of the modern Conservative personality. It was neoliberal cosplay – riffing off the Iron Lady’s style, but without any of the intellectual content.
For all of her faults, Thatcher had a meaningful political viewpoint. She had actually read Friedrich Hayek. She was committed to an ideology which she comprehended, could articulate, and was prepared to defend. Mordaunt, on the other hand, has no content whatsoever. There are no propositions to associate with her."
"She is the perfect representation of her party in its modern incarnation. It mimics the vibe of Thatcher, but has none of the intellectual content which defined her approach. It approaches political debates as something to be undermined rather than encouraged. They’ve reduced Thatcher to a haircut and a manner, without any of the substance.
The difference between this debate and the one which preceded it lay with one person: the BBC’s Mishal Husain. As chair, she single-handedly stopped it turning into a vacuous shouting match. She provided a firm hand on the exchanges, giving the conversation room to breathe when needed and moving on when it became too unruly. She repeatedly shut down Mordaunt as she attempted to undermine proceedings.
The result was actually very impressive. There was room for a meaningful exchange of views on topics like taxation, climate change, immigration and even Europe. Viewers would have finished the programme significantly more informed than they were when they went in. There was an actual democratic purpose to what we saw take place in front of us."

They are standing in elections against 5 of the other 6 on the stage. There's a direct choice between them.

The Tory strategy is now to just keep trotting out the £2k tax rise line and argue with anyone who says the numbers have been dismissed as misleading. It’s like having Boris back where proven lies just get repeated until they are accepted as the truth.

That's an argument, but it means the DUP and SF are excluded because of the other parties refusal to stand against them
(Not withstanding the Tories 5 candidates in NI)

I'd say only parties fielding candidates in a minimum of 2/3 of each of the 4 nations should be included in the debates.
I'd prefer 100% of the seats (exc speaker) but that's impractical.
