Giro d'Italia 23 Stage 11: Camaiore - Tortona, 219 km - Interesting ***SPOILERS***

Yes, Jens Voigt is a lot more fun (and mostly more informative) than some of the other pillion passengers – I thought Wiggins pretty dire.daniel_b said:Jens is awesome on the back of the bike
Voigt was co-commentator (together with Bernie Eisel) on German Eurosport last week for week 1 of the Giro. Rolf Aldag has taken his place with Eisel this week. All three are very good - chatty in an informative sense, especially Eisel and Aldag about tactics, Aldag about DS/management aspects (he is on Bora's management), and Voigt for rider's concerns. And all three with a nice touch of humour.

Ta, just watched the last 2.4k, thought Cav looked pretty good personally, but Milan if he can keep his fitness, and form, looks ridiculous - reminds me in his riding style a fair bit of Kittel in his prime.rick_chasey said:
4km to go unless you want crashes.daniel_b said:ah censored , sounds like a crappy end to the stage.
When abouts should I start watching from, though I don't want to overly see a nasty crash to be fair.
I watched a good few k with lunch, but stopped at about 14:15.
Any point in watching any more?
As Blythe said, he basically looks like a horse (with excellent bike riding skills) on a bike.
Gutted for TGH, thought he had the best chance of winning personally - that must weaken Ineos's position massively - I hope Thomas can wind the clock back.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Given he didn't even try and get up, you could make an educated guess that it was leg or pelvis that had taken the brunt of the hit.jimmyjams said:
Bouwman, who stopped at the crash scene to hand over his bike to Roglic and then waited for the Bora team car to give him a replacement, said that while lying on the road TGH told him that he thought his leg was broken.mididoctors said:Looks bad

Been there on the deck with a fractured pelvis. Wouldn't recommend. I did the muscles on the other side of my pelvis in trying to get into my dad's car.andyp said:

Did Sivakov manage to stay in then? Decent ride if he did and hopefully a sign he wasn't too badly damaged.andyp said:
They still have four in the top ten, as both Arensman and De Plus move up.Pross said:
Yeah, still riding but a long way back apparently. Ineos down from four in the top 10 to 2.Lanterne_Rogue said:
Yeah, that sign was wobbling pretty violently afterwards, so you've got to assume it spread at least some of the deceleration as well.Pross said:
I think the sign actually helped him out and took some pace off or it would have been worse. Nice passively safe sign post too so gave quite a bit but he looks pretty bad (talking though).Lanterne_Rogue said:Not going to lie, given the reminder of Wouter Weylandt I found that second one a tough thing to see.
Sivakov reported to be riding again - there was some concern he might already have abandoned.0 -
Sivakov finished 14 minutes down0

From this we can conclude that my mental arithmetic is rubbish these days. Two out, two in and one staying equals three not four.Pross said:

Ah not good. Best wishes to Tao.1

So sorry to hear the extent of Tao's injuring. Just hope he can recover well.“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

Rodriguez has a bruised kidney and is being kept in, apparently. Gaviria also had a fall...

According to Rod Ellingworth on the cycling podcast he fell on the same side he’d fallen on before.Pross said:

I’m sure that going forward yesterday’s crash will be used as another example that Geraint is a terrible bike handler despite there being absolutely nothing he could do to avoid it.2

Pant wetters move markets: Remco now 7/1 3rd favourite. The wallet in my pocket is still unstained by urine or other bodily fluids btw.andyp said:
Not wanting to be harsh, but all those who wet their pants about that clearly have no idea of how riders prepare for major objectives these days. There was no chance of Remco being able to reset and peak again for the Tour, even if he recovered from Covid in a couple of days.rick_chasey said:

Would the 4 team mates of Remco who 'went home with COVID' form the core of a TdeF team if QS were to refocus their GC season on July? Just curious.red.rider said:Quickstep down to 3: Ballerini, Serry, and Van Wilder

Actually it's proof of the concept that when you do something repeatedly, you can get very good at it. He looks to have fallen on Covi, thus entirely avoiding injury. Pro move!Pross said:I’m sure that going forward yesterday’s crash will be used as another example that Geraint is a terrible bike handler despite there being absolutely nothing he could do to avoid it.
