This is the nub of it: he bought something that relies on advertising for the bulk of its revenue, and is now drastically reducing traffic to anyone but the blue tick brigade. a relatively tiny number. I guess he's hoping it'll drive everyone to subscribe, but I suspect it'll drive everyone away, including advertisers.

I honestly don't think he has a clue: he's trying to turn Twitter into something that it never has been and never will be. It's a good time for Meta to be launching 'Threads' (in two days' time), as The Genius gets more and more desperate to force people to subscribe.0 -

Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly launching a Twitter clone, called Threads, at some point this summer. The chances that there will be restrictions on its feed, on how many posts you can read, are zero. That is not the Meta way.
