He lost time on the opening stage, probably due to not having raced for a month or so and being caught out of position. He then committed to helping Thomas win the GC, so his form is good I think, as he shredded the main favourites group on the final mountain stage after leading it for a few kilometres beforehand.

That sounds promising then - he's taken some good scalps in 1 week races including Pogacar - though as with this latest outing it's dangerous to judge just by the final result hopefully he's in the mix.

Groupama - FDJ: Thibaut Pinot, David Gaudu, Stefan Küng, Michael Storer, Valentin Madouas, Kevin Geniets, Olivier Le Gac, Antoine Duchesne

AG2R Citroën Team: Ben O'Connor, Bob Jungels, Oliver Naesen, Benoît Cosnefroy, Aurélien Paret-Peintre, Geoffrey Bouchard, Stan Dewulf, Mikaël Cherel

FDJ looking good for a couple of stages.

WVA out of the Belgian Nationals as he injured his knee last week. Hopefully we're not going to have a replay of the Sam Bennett saga from last year with regards to WVA's involvement in the Tour.

This means if he makes it, he'll have to wear that kit. There's motivation on its own to get into yellow or green asap.

I'm interested how Ag2r are going to support Ben o Connor. Cosnefroy is not a domestique and doesn't ride like one Can Louis Meintjes get a top 10 for Wanty ? G Martin and - it's a moral dilemma for Cofidis . Mollema podium. I'm a dreamer

He is on his own here ...the good news is he can use ineos and jumbo most of the time

    This. They are that predictable.
Cue them not being predictable now. Please. 😉

Storer was an excellent breakaway option last year. Just wondering how much leeway he’ll get to race for himself given Pinot and Gaudu have no chance of making the top 5 in my view, so should also concentrate on stage wins.

Doesn’t sound like GVA is too pleased about being left out of the AG2R team!

Why does everyone think Vingegaard is going to put Pogacar in difficulties? He had one good day on Mont Ventoux, and even then the gap he opened was easily closed on the descent. Pogacar put four minutes into him (and everyone else) in the Alps and then just matched him (with relative ease) for the rest of the race.

I don’t tbh. I’m just trying to hypothesise how you beat Pog.

I know it’s all relative to the Slovenian super troopers, but both those French teams look strong.

Pogacar is on a different level. But Vingegaard and Roglic are both among the best of the rest.

Vingegaard started the race working for Roglic, lost some time there and only got a protected role when Roglic crashed out. He also crashed the day Pogacar took most of that time (got back but was in a bit of discomfort) .
He's still pretty much the only rider we've seen drop Pogacar on a climb.

That at least makes him one of the favourites behind Pogacar.

This is all sorts of blasphemy bit honestly I think that could be a good thing. Let Jumbo go all in against Pog ....

That's not what Pogacar said about it.

Hindley v Carapaz was Carapaz popping big time, tried to follow and blew up.

I like Dani and would like to see him challenge at the Tour. His descending isn't the best though, is it? May let him down a bit.

He's an exciting rider to watch when he goes on the attack.

Stage hunting for WT points to avoid relegation? Don't see them winning any stages to be honest.

Really? Some big engines in there, who can take on responsibility for setting up and leading out a sprint. Matthews is short of support on the hillier days, but on the genuine sprint days, BikeExchange will be a player.

Fred Wright makes the Bahrain team, to the surprise of no-one.

It just feels like a team of decent domestiques who may get lucky and win a transition stage plus Groenewegen who will be there or thereabouts but doesn't seem in the sort of form to have a team built around him. I suppose it's just an acceptance that a good GC showing is unlikely and they are trying to cover the bases for stage wins.

    Ok enough!

I'd it wasn't enough that a former minor cyclo-twitter loudmouth is ripping off our stage threads by talking about the food and wine on each stage, Now there's this!!!!!!

What is the name of the food and wine plagiariser on Twitter? I'd like to have a look.

I think the "Tour de France 2022, Aide au commentaire géologique" great - thanks for discovering it (even if he does tread on your toes!)

Here's a very general summary for those who can't be bothered to read it all.
