The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

This April wva was getting criticised on here for doing too much work in small groups because he was getting beaten.Pross said:

I don't think he had it in his legs today though, never looked like the strongest rider which is unusual. Same with MvdP. Unfortunately Pidcock realised he couldn't cover everything himself and so seemed to opt for following those two.
I think it's a it different when it's the last 30km of the worlds and alaphillippe is attacking. He was going then going again, so if you can, you need to go with him then go again. If you don't/can't, you don't deserve to win.
What a ride by alaphillippe.0 -

Worth mentioning the Road... well, Everything Worlds* in Scotland are just two years away...above_the_cows said:Excellent ride by Pidcock.

Pidcock spent a lot of time at the back of the group. I don't think he had it either today, which is understandable given the nonsense he's spent his summer doing.Pross said:

Pidcock will be back. It was his first go, difficult to peak for the Olympics and this so close.
Flamme Rouge suggesting that Belgium p*ssed away their extra card to play in the finale by burning up Evenepoel just to keep Merckx and the Belgian media happy, when apparently Van Aert just didn't have the legs.0 -
Second go. He did last year's as there wasn't an u23 race. Still it's probably the best result by a first year pro for a while.bobmcstuff said:Pidcock will be back. It was his first go

He's even said it himself...."I was born to mountain bike". ...Which probably annoyed a lot of road fans.....ddraver said:He's a mountain biker, not a roadie

The answer seems to be Piotr Wadecki of Poland who came 6th in 2001Twitter: @RichN950 -

He looked like he had it to me when he nearly closed to the podium group at the end. He also managed to move up from quite a long way back and close the gap on the move that WVA and MvdP got into. I think he was just trying to pick the ones to go with and backed the wrong horses.gsk82 said:

Loved the race. Suspense was built tremendously towards the end. Alaphilippe with 3 amazing attacks. It's insane how he still had the legs for the third.PTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20231

I'm finding it hard to pick a Roubaix favourite based on that race. Which of the likely contenders looked good? The usual five star names looked a bit off colour (Van Aert, VdP, Sagan etc). Maybe Stybar? Question for another thread probably.RichN95. said:ddraver said:Not Tom Pidcock tho. He leads the biggest team in the world on the days off between MTB...
Talking of which, he's not doing Roubaix next week. Is that right? Maybe a rethink might be in order0 -
it was an incredible ride, and as ever, Flemish roads make for good racing.
JA is the hitter's hitter.
I do sometimes feel with a ride like that, we get all consumed by the tactics in the build up to the finale, but then, in hindsight, it's all an irrelevance when JA actually has legs like that.1 -

It got quite interesting and then JA made a big attack uphill, got caught, went again and he was just doing his impressive JA massive gear flying through everything and gained 30s in about 10kmTheBigBean said:I haven't read the 15 pages, but presumably you've all been saying what a good race it was.

I kinda just assumed he's won the U23 version already but that might be a bit much even for himRichN95. said:ddraver said:Not Tom Pidcock tho. He leads the biggest team in the world on the days off between MTB...

He isn't exactly concentrating mostly on mountain biking, is he? He's earning a really good salary on the road (which might not be his passion, I don't know) and going to do a few mountain bike races. Fair enough, because he's good enough.andyrac said:

Pidcock was great .. little out of position at times and didn't realise how much he left in the tank compared to others .... It's a long race .
JA has amazing endurance . And did nothing while the race was active for so long . Just activating the race at km 100 like that started draining everyone. French stratergy worked"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Belgiums should have committed to remco and sat in the wheels behind .. Hind sight ... Once they committed to WvA Then the section when the Belgium team ripped the race up and made the final selection was also a mistake ... Just bring the race on mass to the finish late as possible . Belgium team was strong but not that strong"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Van Baarle is an interesting outsider. He consistently makes the top 20, but maybe he's got the form to make the main selection this time.bigmat said:
