Come on Jolanda, I'm going to be late!!

Very happy for Neff; I thought she'd be inside the top ten, but after her injuries, wasn't sure she'd have the guts to go hard enough for a medal.

In her videos and TV appearances, she comes over as an extremely likeable person, albeit in normal life speaks in broader = harder to understand Swiss dialect, than her two podium compatriots.
As she seems so nice, I'm surprised she is engaging in a dustup with Prevot. Women!

Will depend what the French dream up for a road course

a few laps around the Champs with a climb up to Montmartre?

I mean, it's not going to be Mont Fuji so will firmly be "flanderian" style.

Doesn't have to finish (or start...) in Paris of course.

I hear Roubaix has a put on the occasional bike race before......
The country organising the Olympics doesn't necessarily organise the routes.
I believe the men's RR course in Japan was designed by an Austrian (it was just coincidence an Austrian woman then won the women's modified version), and the mountain-bike course was designed by the same two people (I don't know which nationality) who designed the MTB courses at London and Rio.

Back to cycling, does anyone else think there would be scope to cheaply add another road event? Given they've got the cyclists there anyway they could just add a criterium race (possibly with heats?) - given the trend in Olympic events towards the quick and the spectacular it'd fit in quite well. Also provides another event that gets away from the stadia so the locals get to enjoy something.

    - A criterium but with elimination rounds (as per some track events).
    - A combination TT = a flat one and a hill climb, the two results added together to decide the winner (I can see arguments for both based on time and on placings; the ones I did were based on placings which I liked for their less certainy of outcome)

They've crossed swords before many times and as I said, it's in the best spirit of competive sportsmanship. No quarter given between the tapes but honourable and respectful outside.

From a different angle, you can see Pidcock's handling in swerving MvdP

Flippin' big drop for XCO when you've got a saddle up your censored ...

I wonder if the ramp will be there for the girls..?
    That would be sexist
There's a bit of video of Evie Richards practicing on that jump with the ramp in place but she is taking off from the top and totally clearing the ramp like it isn't there...so I would hope it won't be there for the race.

She's been getting 'Jumps' training from Katy Curd in the Forest of Dean in preparation for the jumps on the course.....It won't be there.
What's the feeling about Richards' chances?
At the moment Lecomte looks unbeatable, and Rissveds good for a medal too.
It's not gonna happen but there's a chance for a medal and wouldn't it be just lovely if it was gold.

Given her Instagram feed is basically what The Walton's feed would be if Instagram had existed (plus some minor MTB content), it would just be so warm and cuddly and wholesome! Think early Laura Trott era...
Couldn't get back here until this evening, but if Evie Richards is another version of Laura Trott, as you imply, while not wishing ill for Richards, I'm not unhappy that she didn't make the medals – I couldn't stand Trott or the media coverage about her, and I wouldn't enjoy a similar repeat.
So you want someone to lose, just because you have a negative perception of them, based on not knowing them at all. OK. Cool.

From the body language of a brief vid clip on socials, I’d say she’s a consenting adult. Here’s the thing: I’m way more confident about being able to explain the behaviour of that geezer to my 5 yr old daughter than the sanctioned combat sport Martyna Trajdos was about to partake in.

That surprises me. One is a contest of skill between two women the other is a guy shaking and slapping a woman who shows no resistance.

I'm not saying either is wrong but I know which looks more problematic at first glance to me and it's not the judo.

That's the problem with social media. Everything is judged on a glance without any context or knowledge. *A generalisation, not a retort.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    It’s the “first glance” bit…
My daughter grasps that there are meanies in the world: but that we then create rules around beating each other up in dressing gowns and put it on the telly will confuse her…
She would also pick up on the body language of Martyna allowing her coach to do what he did - whereas she’d be clearly resisting whatever Szofi Ozbas was trying to do to her…

Most 5 year olds would understand that Judo is a game played between two competitors and wouldn't have any difficulty with it.

It's the fact that the judo player doesn't resist the coach that would need explaining.

I mean not all adults grasped this was at the athlete's request whereas I'm pretty sure none thought the judo match that followed was a spontaneous fight that broke out between two women that had turned up in pyjamas.

Five year old girls would realise that they only have eight more years to make it as a skateboarder or they're finished.

Van Vleuten wins the time trial. Reusser second, and Van der Breggen third. She absolutely dominated it. 56s ahead of 2nd and 1m1 ahead of 3rd.

There's no failure to grasp. Just dishonest representation to suit an agenda.

We had Jo Absolom commentating on French TV, seemed to know his stuff. He reckoned the French women had made a bad tire choice

I assume you mean Julien Absalon the French mountain biker. It would be odd to have an ex-Eastenders actor do the coms for French TV
I thought his French was good. Couldn't be worse than Kirby though. I think he said the French women were on mud tires.

Neff has slammed PFPs dangerous riding. Saying she doesn't want to be near her in races.

Tom Dean and Duncan Scott also get Golds in the Mens 200m freestyle relay, bloody incredible for those guys. James Guy, Matthew Richards were the other two in the team.

I'm glad for Duncan Scott to get a Gold after being so close against his team mate. He dealt with that situation very well.
