Why did he even want to use the ramp? Is he a scaredy cat?"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0

Evie Richards is qouted as saying perhaps she cose the wrong tyre as well, which worked well right at the beginning, but then started to become less useful as the race went on. She went for a mud tyre.davidof said:We had Jo Absolom commentating on French TV, seemed to know his stuff. He reckoned the French women had made a bad tire choice
PFP is a recent WC and she was using the ramp - could she have done it without, I'm sure she could. I think she has had a few accidents in the not too distant past, and perhaps if she did have the wrong, or not optimum tyres on, she was concerned about the landing. Certainly didn't see her lose any ground by taking the ramp option.dabber said:
I find that hard to believe. There never seemed anything exceptional about that drop and the landing area was nicely angled.ddraver said:I There are recent world champions that wouldn't have dealt with the drop with no ramp.

Evie has been open about needing to work specifically on it before these games. As I said elsewhere it's a biiig step up in terms of risk from what has been on most World Cup Courses and didnt appear to have a chicken run. (Or at least not one that was even a little bit competitive)
As always a reminder that they re hitting these features with Heart Rates through the sky, breathing out their...and tunnel vision too. Not with the boys in the skills zone at the end of a lap of 'degla..We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

As brilliant as this idea is, I think the world is suffering enough as it is without sticking that lot into sparkly leotards for the gymnastics.RichN95. said:I think the "Russian Olympic Commitee" team should be the actual Russian Olympic Committee. I wanted to see a group of 70 year old doping facilitators do the 3000m steeplechase and the team pursuit
Whilst on that topic, people who think Carlton is the least sufferable commentator on TV haven't heard the BBC's gymnastics commentary team. Professional tractor-gazer Matt Baker and two screechers, one of whom communicates entirely in vowels. Ooo-eee-oo! is the sort of noise gymnasts are supposed to make when crunching their nuts on a piece of apparatus. It's not supposed to pass for commentary.1 -
I reckon most of the kids I used to coach would have done the drop without the ramp (OK a few would have ended up like MvdP but most would have been fine).0

Can't someone send him a link to a couple of Danny Macaskill youtube videos?0

Is it horsey dancing? One of those things where you wonder how many people world-wide actually do this? If they're introducing skateboarding to encourage more accessible participation, they need to do the opposite and get rid of equestrian (I know they won't.....)ddraver said:Also...people were complaining about skateboarding and surfing - would ya look at the fuckin' horse nonsense on now? 🤔🤨🤔

At one point they were going for a "collective walk". Well it's not like only one of them is going to be doing it, is it?ddraver said:Also...people were complaining about skateboarding and surfing - would ya look at the fuckin' horse nonsense on now? 🤔🤨🤔
(on the basic test that the most deserving Olympic sports are those where nobody gives a hoot about them for the remaining 205 weeks of an Olympiad, fannying about on horses to music is surely beyond criticism)1 -
Or just have a look at some of Nino Schurter's fun videos when he is playing. These riders are amazing. Just good local riders tackle a lot gnarlier. This is the Olympics.focuszing723 said:Can't someone send him a link to a couple of Danny Macaskill youtube videos?

Should make them use a random horse (like I think they may do in Modern Pentathlon now?).
That'll learn em.0 -
Anyway, we shouldn't slag off the dressage too much. Those horses have worked very hard for
fourfive years in preparation for this.
(as for the accessibility thing, Horse and Hound - yes, really, and RIP my advertising algorithms for the next couple of years - reveals that most of the team own shares in each other's horses. It seems to be dominated by an incredibly small clique, at least in the UK. And no, I don't know how they divide the horses up - presumably they sponsor a leg each or something)0 -
Commentator is all "Dujardin did well there", and then "Pumpkin made a bit of a mistake". Horseist, I tell you.2

It's very inclusive. What other sports can the horses do? Taekwando have banned them, they can't grip a racket or a bat. Maybe surfing at a push.Twitter: @RichN952 -
I dont think I have the bottle to do that drop off now tbh .Pross said:I reckon most of the kids I used to coach would have done the drop without the ramp (OK a few would have ended up like MvdP but most would have been fine).
"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

I don't know anything about xc racing - but it seems harsh to have that drop with the landing area being a rock.
