Racing is more intense on the downhill these days .

Which is why retaining the final descent makes no sense if the changes have been made for safety reasons. That's the one where people are really going to take chances to win a stage or put time into rivals.

Trying hard not to fall asleep, post lunch, as I have to go out for my second dose.

Only watched bits so far but it looks like EF are doing a nice job in support of Bernal.

just read evenepoel is down 2 minutes already. Certainly not his race and should think he's happy to be riding less distance today

Saving Carthy in 5th, I think, but yes seems to be the case.

    Evenpoel down 2 mins

roads look dry in the valley (I know the summits might be different). Edit: perhaps drier but no less slippy having watched that corner

Hatch a bit too much of the used car salesman approach to the day for my liking.

It feels like I've watched (recent) races run in far worse conditions than these.

Can't believe Formolo is still in the big ring. I'm usually grovelling by this point already.

Tiny lead group. TV coverage spending far too much time concentrating on the seemingly doomed break so hard to know what is happening.

Hugh Carthy looks like Les from Vic Reeves' Big NIght Out when someone shows him chives.

Bernal still has Martinez. Yates seems to be doing a Yates and dangling on the back.

EF look to have absolutely ripped the peloton apart while the cameras were away

Tbf, they use 11-30 as standard now, might even be 32. So 52 or 53 is still hard but not like it use to be when a 26 sprocket might be your last one

I think Bernal just told Martinez to up the pace a bit when he can.

Seems to be slowly coming back but I'll never understand why he insists on sitting last wheel meaning he's at risk to any increase in pace or another rider losing the wheel.

Vlasov doing a decent ride and looks like he's coming back.
