I am impressed, given the average American's grasp of both Geography and foreign sports, that they knew about the team and this issue.

I imagine more than a few Native Americans dive a Jeep.ddraver said:(I feel like there is likely to be a lot of cross over between the rugby and skiing crowd...)
Another example from the US is that Squaw Valley has changed it's name to Pallisades Tahoe too, this year. The wind has started blowing that way recently.
Cherokee should be on borrowed time..

A little off topic but. . .Pross said:I'm not arguing, I just find it an odd thing to get upset about considering all the real issues Native Americans have in their homeland. How many of them are aware of rugby let alone a logo used by a team playing it thousands of miles away?
I was playing in a rugby tournament in Colorado a few years ago. Due to the altitude, squads were pretty big as a policy of rolling substitutions was adopted (it's difficult to run around for more than 15-20 minutes without gasping for air . . . it feels like drowning)
Consequently there is a large subs "bench" and, as I had travelled from the UK, I was playing in an invitiational team consisting of USAnians.
Found myself on the sidelines standing next to a big guy with long black hair. Someone in the bleachers behind us shouted to this guy something like "hey buddy, if you want to play this game, you'll need to get a hair cut!"
This chaps shouts back "I'll NEVER cut my hair!"
At this point I noticed that he sounded and looked distinctly Native American and (drawing on memories of an early track by The Cult) said to him "It's an extension of your soul, right?"
"Yeah man . . . how did you know that" (delivered in a distinctly native american accent that I find hard to desrcibe but you'd know it if you heard it)
"I, errr, just heard it somehwere" and introduced myself to my new found team mate and began to talk to him about his native american culture.
" . . . you seem to know more about Native Americans than most american people do" (I didn't but was very interested in hearing more)
"So, which part of the nation to you belong to?"
"I am from the Cree nation"
". . . and where do the cree nation call home?"
" . . . Our hunting grounds stretch from the Rocky Mountains the (forgot name) River in the east and up to (somehwere) in the North, our reservation is in (somwhere else) . . ."
" . . . wow!" says me . . . I could imagine this guy astride a horse surveying the hunting grounds atop a rocky escarpment and continued to quiz him about his culture and life as a Native American.
This conversation went on for a few minutes while we were both catching our breath and, expecting something like "Two Rivers" or "Running Bear", I asked him what his name was . . .
"Dave"
came the unexpected and somewhat anticlimatic reply . . .

Looks like England my struggle to field a side at all this weekend.
Time for an unexpected call up for @Dorset_Boy and me!We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

England team: Steward; Malins, Daly, Slade, Marchant; Smith, Youngs; Genge, Cowan-Dickie, Sinckler, Itoje, Isiekwe, Ludlam, Curry (capt), Simmonds.ddraver said:Looks like England my struggle to field a side at all this weekend.
Time for an unexpected call up for @Dorset_Boy and me!
Replacements: George, Marler, Stuart, Ewels, Dombrandt, Randall, Ford, Nowell.
Here's what they are up against:
Scotland team to face England: Hogg; Graham, Harris, Johnson, Van der Merwe; Russell, Price; Sutherland, Turner, Z Fagerson, J Gray, Gilchrist, Ritchie, Watson, M Fagerson.
Replacements: McInally, Schoeman, Nel, Skinner, M Bradbury, White, Kinghorn, Tuipulotu.
However, if you are looking for a country struggling to field a team, here it is.
Wales: L Williams; McNicholl, Adams, Tompkins, Rees-Zammit; Biggar, T Williams; W Jones, Elias, Francis, Rowlands, Beard, E Jenkins, Basham, Wainwright.
Replacements: Lake, G Thomas, D Lewis, S Davies, Moriarty, G Davies, Sheedy, Watkin.
Even with 3 home games, I can't see this line up winning much.

Probably used up their luck last year playing almost all the 6 nations against 14 men!blazing_saddles said:

Going to be a really tough task for Wales in Dublin.0 -
Josh Adams looks very out of place at 13. Going to be a difficult second half for Wales0
-
Slightly better second quarter by Wales but they look a bit clueless with the ball in hand compared to Ireland.0
-
That yellow card will help won't it...
0 -
FFS what was Adams doing there? I can give him the benefit of the doubt for the bouncing ball and dropping the shoulder to protect himself in the contact but a change of direction too.
This is going to be a massacre now.0 -
Embarrassing, the cracks are finally coming through the paper. You can't get strength in depth with 4 (not very good) professional teams and making it even harder for yourself by seriously restricting your access to players playing elsewhere.0
-
The system is ridiculous, couldn't agree more. I thought holding Ireland to 40 points would be a good result, but looks like I was being optimistic. At this rate Italy will be fancying their chances.
Although to be fair, Ireland have played a lovely game. Some of their back play has been sublime.0 -
The only tactic left is to try to keep the score down. Haven't even looked like scoring. How can a supposedly top flight rugby nation not find an international standard outside centre for the starting line up?0
-
As I say that they fluke a try following a good tackle.0
-
I was thinking Wales were going to be nilled. Very, very one sided from the bits I've seen.0
-
Wales had a decent 10 minutes in the second quarter but even then never looked like scoring as Ireland's defence was too good. They are looking a very good side to be fair.Dorset_Boy said:I was thinking Wales were going to be nilled. Very, very one sided from the bits I've seen.

Next weekend could be interesting. Wales vs Italy for the wooden spoon on this evidence0
-
Flattering scoreline for Wales in the end I would say.0
-
They just looked lost out there didn't they? Normally you'd back them on open play but even then they were adrift. Didn't appear to be much unity of thought. The Conway try is a case in point - positioning was awful. Holes all over the defensive line. We desperately need a proper 13.
Having said that, Ireland had passages of play that were outstanding so it's definitely a case of Ireland winning rather than Wales losing, as it were.0 -
That was a lovely try0
-
Wasn't it a quick throw when the lineout had formed though, so should have been chalked off?Pross said:That was a lovely try
Other than that, yes a cracker.0 -
Ireland should be disappointed with that score.0

The only ray of sunshine in one of the dullest, kick crazy half’s I have witnessed.
Resembled a game of football at times.
I was looking forward to this after switching off the expected massacre in Dublin.
I second Pross’s point about lack of depth from 4 underfunded district team and a governing union blocking qualified players who had the gall to up sticks to earn more money.

No, it was a proper lineout they just didn't mess about.Dorset_Boy said:

Taken from behind the TJ though Pross!
And if it's formed (ie two players from one side) then you have to confirm the numbers.0 -
Very nearly classic Hogg there.0

He’s brought his full comedy routine with him today.Pross said:Very nearly classic Hogg there.
A bit more rugby being played in this second half.
Nigel doesn’t sound too impressed with Mr o’Keefe.

Not sure the Scot was catching tht either.
Certainly a deliberate hit into touch though.0 -
Previously I was going to suggest the Kiwi ref's bank account needed checking. Not so much now.0

LCD didn’t need to do that, he made it so obvious. He was up against the shortest bloke on the pitch.Dorset_Boy said:Not sure the Scot was catching tht either.
