Can't recall a three way split this close going into the last few days of a GT. I think Tao needs to gain time on Sestriere as I think he'll lose a bit in the TT.

Chances of being in a gt winning position like this again .
Goes for Kelderman the most out of the three.
    You raise a valid point

TGH can test better than that , and was disappointed in his prologue. Any way Saturday to come and all in play -But Kelderman still in the box seat?

Shame Tao lost so much time (relatively) on Etna, although I suppose without that things might have panned out differently from now.

He's definitely ridden into the race hasn't he. Given his stage 1 TT and Etna performances, he's come good more recently.

Rohann Dennis was pretty awesome ... Didn't think.he had it too take it up from the break like that .

I think Tao is on an upward trajectory whereas Wilcoman possibly peaked earlier in the race and is dropping away slightly

Ineos have some firepower to throw at all three climbs of Sestriere. Sunweb know they can't bank on Hindley to beat TGH in the TT so they've got decisions to make. For Ineos it's simple.

Tao is excellent because he over achieves ... True all rounder maximising his potential. He is not head and shoulders better at anything except doing everything he can

Hindley follows tao and Muggs him again except attacking from further out . Wilco hangs on as best he can hoping to remain with in striking distance in the TT. Dropping hindley back to tow wilco is unlikely to make wilco go that much faster ... Zero valley floor more or less

Throw a blanket over the top 3 with 2 stages left. Can't really ask for more. Fantastic stage today. Proper racing.

That wouldn't be the worst outcome, if Tao could limit his loss to Hindley to less than 10 seconds, plus bonuses. Guess he'd be pretty happy 15 seconds behind Hindley and 30 seconds ahead of Kelderman going into the TT.

    All to play for.

What a losers win that is. Hopefully feels so hollow.

    What?
Haha yeah what else was he meant to do, work with Tao to distance his own teammate??
It's like people are watching a bike race for the first time.

In fairness, they may not be experienced race watchers. We all knew nothing at one point. Some of us still don't know as much as we think we do!
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

I still know nothing but it was still obvious that Hindley wasn't going to contribute in putting distance into his team mate who was virtual race leader or simply let TGH take the stage and the additional bonus seconds.
  • And as Eurosport coverage swapped over to la Vuelta, Carlton didn't disappoint..."blah blah blah, boring sprint stage, blah blah blah, thank you for joining us, where've you been?"

I for one was watching a very exciting stage of the Giro actually Carlton, one of the most exciting grand tour stages I can remember (not just because of what happened today, but also what it promises for the weekend). Glad the Giro is a sprint stage tomorrow, I need a rest.

So want Tao to take overall, would be nice for a supposed domestique to take the overall after Ineos's three prong attack on the Grand Tours looks to have failed

  • Assuming Hindley's TT is significantly weaker than the other two, TGH needs to put 30 seconds into Keldermercx on Sestriere to make things interesting.
How Ineos do that, I know not.
    Bloody French. :p

Don't understand the Sunweb tactics there unless Jai Hindley went rogue.

Protecting his podium position while not helping Ineos in any way while Kelderman was in virtual Pink. Seemed the obvious move to me.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Exactly - they've got 1 and 2 on the GC with 3 days to go. If Kelderman had cracked completely, they'd still have 1st.

Haven't seen any updates but apparently his bike fell over trapping him underneath (he appears to have gone for the steepest line through the corner

Yep, it was a perfect hedge bet really. I suspect Kelderman also knew he was in a bit of trouble.

Kelderman slightly critising Hindley in Eisels interview for not waiting on the Stelvio Decent , But all good he recons . Which it is really .

Surprised to hear Kelderman say that, TBH

  • When Fuglsang and Bilbao came up to him, Kelderman couldn't hold their wheel for one pedal stroke. So I wouldn't be optimistic that Hindley could have coaxed much more from him.
Plus, TGH would have been free to ride flat out for the whole climb, which he couldn't with Hindley attached to this rear wheel.

    No brainer to me.
