It's the England way! All out still 100 behind?0

Root failing to make his reprieve count. It was all looking so good at tea, been a bit of a disaster since. There’s Bazball and there’s being stupid.0

Great fun. 138 runs behind and it looks like Lyon is out for the match (and possibly the series).0

England just want to let Australia have a chance to make it more interesting. Knock these runs over and then declare at lunch tomorrow.0

If they declare in this innings I will go down to Lords and strangle Stokes and "Baz"kingstongraham said:England just want to let Australia have a chance to make it more interesting. Knock these runs over and then declare at lunch tomorrow.

Bairstow needs to justify his continued selection now.0

Why do they keep doing what Australia want?

Stoke's isn't justifying his selection so far this series. Although to be fair his Bowling and Batting avg in all Ashes tests are the wrong way round.0

Pretty much their only chance of getting close to parity now.Pross said:Bairstow needs to justify his continued selection now.
One thing England do better than all the rest: collapse.

Think it was lost in that hour after tea yesterday to be honest. They had the Aussies on the ropes and all they could do was a hail Mary of sticking 5 fielders out on the hook / pull then bowl short hoping the batsmen would be stupid enough to stick to their pledge of taking on the challenge which they duly did. It's one thing to play expansive, exciting cricket but you can do that whilst still using your brain. If they'd refused to be drawn into it the Aussies would have had to try something else after a few overs. England were already scoring at 5 an over at that point whilst batting sensibly and the Aussies had lost their most dangerous looking bowler.blazing_saddles said:And now he’s out.

100% agree. The daft thing is that the captain and supposed architect of the madness came in and didn't do that. But then didn't score runs either, so I don't know.Pross said:

I think we'd have won the first test with Foakes.Pross said:Bairstow needs to justify his continued selection now.

Once Stokes stopped playing the short balls Australia stopped delivering them. They should never have been playing at them like that.kingstongraham said:

All England can do now is pray for rain, and lots of it.
Or allow Stop Oil to dig up the square.0 -
I don't mind watching them get beaten fair and square. Watching them play stupidly and throw away good positions is much harder to watch.0

Shades (in reverse) of Headingley in 1975, when the "Free George Davis" campaign vandalised the pitch before the start of the final day - by covering it in oil.Dorset_Boy said:All England can do now is pray for rain, and lots of it.

Aussie opener Rick McCosker was left high and dry on 95 not out, likely deprived of a maiden test century.0 -
Need wickets and fast...0

Game looks gone.0

It looks like challenging conditions but England don't seem to be getting the luck - lots of play and miss, but not taking the edge.0

Thank goodness there's going to be some cycling on to take our minds off this.1

The Aussies now copying England’s tactics of throwing away wickets to short pitched bowling.0

Could be worse. 50k on the MTB this morning too!

OK it's gone on sideways for some reason, great...
That's the Stokes no ball catch there0
