Should Mark Cavendish swallow his pride and retire?

If you've never seen Cav's running piss take of Rasmus Staghøj's shirt (DK TV2 presenter) then have a smile at this (from a few years back)
There's a bit missing though. One day Rasmus had a white shirt on;
Cav - "white? didn't you think it was going to be a sprint stage?"
Rasmus - "I thought Greipel was going to win"
Cav - *stares him down in cold silence *

Knighthoods for sportspeople are surely a much preferable option than knighthoods for services to the Tory Party Bank accounts?MattFalle said:

People who have done something that sets them apart. Not make ££££ and back the Tory party or someone who has been on the Civil service train since Oxbridge. Think people who have invented something or improved our lives or given some genuine service.bobmcstuff said:

Yeah I mean I agree with who they should not be for. But plenty of other sportspeople have them - what Cav has done is equally worthy.amrushton said:

But plenty of them do. Isn't what Cav has done equivalent or better?MattFalle said:

none of them should have it.
and if you weren't a cycling fan, then maybe not. A Man Utd/England fan may say that Beckham is more deserving, but I think he's a massivebellend.

pointless statement because the eternal public sycophancia and awarding of honours to people who don't deserve it goes on.m.r.m. said:Pointless discussion. The entire monarchy is stupid.
ignore it and it'll just happen.
i bet if he would have won today there would be clamouring from the cheap seats for awards to be made.

Nice little interview. Still wants to carry on, because he enjoys it, but not likely to go to the vuelta because Jakobsen.kingstongraham said:Cav about to be interviewed on 5live

What about tour next year? He's never really been big on the Vuelta due to the heat, climbs and a tour of Britain preference.kingstongraham said:

No question specifically about the tour next year, but if he's still riding and gets the chance, it's surely a no brainer.0 -
Yes,There is no champion who wins all the time0

That's good to hear - who do we think he would ride for though, will PL extend his contract do we think - great PR for the team no?kingstongraham said:

I struggling to see where else he could go that has a strong chance of yielding success.

I know it sounds unlikely but unless they can be confident Bernal can challenge it gives them a high profile presence at the Tour.
I suppose it doesn't fit their usual way of riding to hedge their bets.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -
Quickstep will be problematic for tour next year if they sign a new sprinter, or focus on Evenepoel (which is perhaps more likely). ISN could be an option - Greipel retiring, and they love an aging superstar there. Money will be good and he'll be able to say what races he wants to do. Where are Specialized going next year? If they stay with Bora, that could be an option as Ackerman leaving and Bennett not yet confirmed.0

Ineos would be left field, and unless they decide they are not going to target GC, which seems unlikely, he's only be offered 1 or 2 opportunities would be my guess, well unless their GC hopes all fell by the wayside, but that would be a big gamble.
Quickstep would have to alter their plans, or would they, as 2 sprinters on the books is not out of the question, although as you say again, if they re targeting GC with Evenepoel next year, he'd find himself in the same situation as with Ineos.
ISN isn't a bad shout - think Greipel wants to carry on for another year (?) so could he become Cav's lead out man?Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Yes plus Greipel is too cautious to be a leadout man I'd have thought.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

He could, but they had already announced that the signing of a 'big name sprinter' had already been agreed, and Merlier seemed to be the logical conclusion.ddraver said:Isn't Bennet planning on leaving anyway?
Sounds like Patrik could get a steal of a deal...
Though if it's not actually signed then perhaps it could be wiggled out of.
Ah cool, I misremembered what I had heard in that case - in that case ISN would be a good fit.dannbodge said:
