Yeah, not good for team morale either.

Hmmm dunno, could spur Ineos on.

I know who would win in a fight between Rowe and Martin.

Handy for the French hopefuls though eh?....

My first thought, two biggest riders to cause issues for the French contenders on the flat eliminated for a very minor incident.

The UCI certainly know how to put a downer on an otherwise brilliant Tour.

    Rowe and Martin respond together.

Looks like both teams are appealing.

Anyone know of the last time an appeal to the UCI/ASO was successful?
Not holding out any real hope that these two will be racing tomorrow.

    Ridiculous decision.

    Trentin, classy rider innit?
  • "We shook hands and said tomorrow we go again".

That really should have been the end of it right there, what an utterly ridiculous decision. I really hope the appeal is successful, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Avondetappe gives the context with LtD and his says it as follows...

Basically luke goes for a gap on the far left because Tony leaves a very small gap which, says LtD, you wouldn’t normally go for, (“but then I’m not a boisterous classics specialist and he’s used to doing that”) and then the afters were unnecessary.

They did spot Rowe taking his hands off the bars and pushing Martin after Martin swerved him into the barrier.

Just fine then and be done with it. Throwing out is nuts - didn’t Lopez punch a spectator in the Giro with no comeback?!

No mention of Geraint Thomas being taken out of the line by George Bennett, first?

I've been watching Vive le Velo's take, it's the same as Avondetappe.
BUT. They have edited out the crucial couple of seconds before showing Thomas getting blocked out.

F@cking idiots. Outrageous decision. That stuff is going on all day every day. Asgreen got away with a fine and warning for something similar just a few days ago. Half the peloton should probably be out if that's a DQS offence.

That Asgreen bloke went down in my estimation a great deal today, sat on the break all day and quell suprise he had the energy at the end to try and catch Trentin.

    Glad he couldn't get there.

Oh they gave them the fine as well. (€1000 each) Just to be consistent.

Vive le Velo made a joke about the jury getting a back hander from DQS. :)

What Martin did may not be uncommon and he might have got away with a fine without Rowe's reaction. Rugby style hand-offs to the face I'd suggest are somewhat more unusual.

Or.... a bit of argy bargy by young male competitors in a high tension battle for position on the road.

Too harsh hmmm. I’ve been thinking and now think Rowe deserves to get binned if he punched Tony. Tony fine for putting Rowe into the barriers.

Don't disagree with any of that. It's purely Rowe's hand in Martin's face that elevates it.

  • Farcial, if a French rider had been involved no ban. Utter bias as per. Bit like no doping talk(not that I'm saying anyone is but undoubtedly if an INEOS rider was in yellow we'd be hearing lots of accusations).

    Bias from whom?

The Italian led UCI race jury?

He's a Cardiff boy. Hand-off's are not exactly uncommon in Cardiff. :P

Still, he'll have learned a valuable lesson from this: When attempting to move an opponent, don't use a hand, use a bike, as it's both more commonplace and effective.

You mean they should have hitched a ride with the team car to get in front?
