In case she is reading the thread, I'd like to say that I think she's doing a great job and that finally we have some proper cycling discussion and coverage in english - something Chasey has been arguing for for years!

Given that most of the time I hear her is on a podcast, what she looks like is largely irrelevant.

(I like the odd story about the 'fun' of moving to The Netherlands too as it reminds me of some...more beaurocratic...times)

    Yeah.

Look the fact it has even come up is fairly depressing.

Folk who talk about quotas or whatever miss the point and I pity their female spouses, relatives, friends and colleagues.

To be fair it does sometimes feel like that the way clare balding is rolled out at every opportunity. She is so bloody boring.

For 3 pages of this thread it didn't come up. Then came one negative comment. That's all it took.
Most comments are still about the show, not the person, but those that are, are almost universally positive.
So it seems that now the show has bedded in, it is getting the big thumbs up.
The fact that some folks find general discussion and even minor criticism sexist, is also depressing.

I personally just ignore the comments and don't answer them. Seems to me the best way of dealing with them, since they then just don't get the attention they don't deserve. Otherwise one possibly offhand comment becomes a 10 page thread with sometimes even people quitting the forum etc. etc.

But I see the issue in the strategy, that this can be seen as tacit approval. :(

Plus if you look at the posts of the person who made that comment elsewhere on the forum you'd soon work them out.

The sexist bits are "she's only there because they need an obligatory female" and "she looks pretty good too". HTH.

Yep, but both were by posters that a quick skim of posts will show up as being trolls / wind up merchants.

Although anybody browsing the forum who wasn't a regular member isn't likely to know that. Would they really start trawling through posters previous posts?

New soul? New Seoul? In our dystopian future where we are ruled by the evil overlord Grave Tailsford, pockets of resistance form. Our journey takes us to New Seoul where diminutive Japanese former racer Fumiyuki Beppu works as a bike courier and is delivering a package that could change the fate of mankind forever...

There's some merit in arguing that pundits need to have taken part in the sport to give that crucial insight "I've been in that situation, and what I did was XYZ". But that's pundits only. Commentators, hosts, presenters don't need that.

The best pundits can then turn their hands to commentary or hosting too.

Equally, generic presenters (male, female, old, young, pig ugly, drop dead gorgeous) who put in the research work can turn those skills into excellent commentary and hosting no matter what the sport.

She seems alright but what really gets to me is there are one or two rugby presenters who are only there for looks and/or family connections. Case in point Sara Elgin who does Scrum V and BT Sport rugby presenting. Spends all the time preening and pouting in front of camera, totters around in ridiculously high stiletto heels etc. WTF. Oh, and for a ahem, coincidence, is married to Simon Easterby. Wonder how she got job because it's not on rugby knowledge.

Whereas ITV employ Maggie Alphonsi (ex WC winner, multi-award rugby player) and Channel 5 use Danielle Waterman, again ex player who's been there done it, won it, so knows about game. These ladies are there for their insight and rugby knowledge and are excellent.

Neo Soul is a thing, as it goes. But it's 90's stuff like D'Angelo, nothing to do with 60's crooners.

Sara Elgan's dad got 13 Welsh Rugby Caps so one would presume she does know something about rugger. Certainly when I have seen her on Jonathan on S4c she appears knowledgeable about the sport. Maybe that same confidence doesn't come out when presenting in English.

Yes I know but if you watch it is blindingly obvious she doesn't have a clue, asking inane questions and making irrelevant comments. Still, keeps the make-up and hair staff in work I suppose.

Scrum V started to go downhill once Jason Mohammad left and they replaced him with dual main presenters.
