Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

Phoenix A has a Schwarzschild diameter of 590 billion km - that's about 50x the diameter of the solar system as measured by the orbit of Pluto. So it's a very small fraction.

The bloke down the road that owns a foodshop has ALL the £2 coins. He showed me. Masses of the buggers. Apparently there is a £5 coin too!
At least I know where they all are now.

After Eight mints. Not had any for years. Now realise they are like eating chocolate coated toothpaste. Weird.

Haha. The last time they weren't a bit of a joke was in the 70s when prawn cocktails, chicken chasseur and Black Forest gateau were thought of as vaguely sophisticated for a dinner party.
But at least if you do have them, never ever leave the little individual envelope in the box. That's the height of bad manners.

Gotta admit to them being a guilty pleasure. Only at Christmas though, and they are vastly over-priced.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Funniest game is the one where you try to manoeuvre an after eight from your forehead into your mouth without touching or dropping it. Really sorts out the botox abusers.

Developed a clicking every down stroke from the bottom bracket. Got worse under power.
Eventually got around to taking it to the shop to get it repaired (I might have found a decent bike shop...don't faint with shock). Had a 5 second look at it and spotted that it was the rear wheel bearing was shot and nothing to do with the bottom bracket. This would make sense as the front bearing had already had to be replaced.
All fine, but why on earth was I absolutely convinced the sound was coming from the bottom bracket and not the bearing?! It definitely did not sound like it was coming from the back.

No idea, except it's hard to undo initial suspicion/perception (and our ears aren't as good perceiving up/down as left/right). I try to narrow it down by changing gears and seeing if the rate of click remains the same.

If you ever watched House, then bottom bracket noise is the equivalent of Lupus.

Would also explain the rear brake rub, so that's good.
Though the spring in the rear brake needs some attention too.

Switch to discs. That way you get brake rub all the time. It's how you know they are set up right.

I have to say, it is a remarkable feat of marketing, the disc brake.
What's a more expensive, higher faff, higher margin braking system that no-one is asking for that we can make so much the default that everyone needs to use it?

Apparently, some people can't use their brakes in the wet. And others are unable to turn the barrel adjuster to tighten them as required.

There's bound to be a 4 part podcast on the main BR website on how to centre your brakes.

The main advantage is that you can now use wheels until the bearings fail, rather than when the rims wear out.

Not that I listen to or watch any of this sort of shite, but, happening upon 'news' reports on t'subject, I wonder just how CBE Piers Moron et al would react were it not Kate Middlething's uncle appearing on that TV Big Brother programme but instead it was Meghan Markle's?

I have literally no idea what this means.

No, they're all now googling: have I given my password to a bot?
Or at least, that's what I'm doing.

In Zürich atm and playing “how much does it cost in Zurich” is quite fun.

13 minute cab ride from the airport to the hotel? 80.40CHF
1 sit in coffee and croissant, not table service: 17.40CHF

I had to check the exchange rate. That’s eye watering
