    Hashtag

do you genuinely not get it or just the over use of it? they do serve a purpose

    English version
The hash sign had been well over used before an idiot ( probably Chris Messina ) gave it another new meaning and called it something different just to add to the confusion.

It's just a way of searching for similar topics isn't it, it was in use but Twitter made it more widespread but still for the same purpose, didn't it?

If you wanted to search a lot of text for wheel building spoke tension instead of searching for those words you'd add #wheelbuildingspoketension and search for that and it would bring back all relevant topics. Instead of bringing back topics that included wheel, building, spoke or tension or having to have all words.

Twitter does the same just on a mass scale.

    Unless I'm missing something?

What was it before a way of searching?

Started out as a quick way of writing lb as in pounds weight but then got used by accountants as a symbol to represent a number nomenclature exists or follows like a protocol almost and it was just called hash.

Now it's got a new name and a completely different meaning ie it's now hashtag and a protocol for "search the following" if you've got twitter -- I'm not on twitter -- that's for twits like trump. But now the hash sign is to be bassturdadised again because of one long list of garage that needs to be searched entirely.

What happened to search exact phrase?

CB has it slightly back to front. It is a way for the authors of tweets or instagram posts to highlight key words so that their target audience can find them.

    Some history.

"Search exact phrase" is fine but that's again looking at it from the wrong direction.

Are you still getting over the re-use of the letters L and S to denote currency?

    Would that be
    NOF----Neck Of Femur
    NOF----Not On File (maybe)
    NOF----Notice of Findings
    Or
    NOF----Non-Ossifying Fibroma (bone disease)

I'm wondering if the proprietor decided to copy the U.S. counterpart Mr $andwich and invented a malapropism? :D

Mr $andwich? The exchange rate is still about $0.8 to the L. That's where the benefit of chlorinated chicken comes in! Unless the $andwich is bigger than the Landwich...... :?
