Really happy for Degenkolb and a great ride by little Nairo.

“His collarbone isn’t broken. There are no broken bones. He’s been to hospital in Cambrai and is now on his way to Annecy. His bag is waiting for him there.”
    Ochowicz on Porte.

Just suggesting he should be OK to start stage 10 in Annecy.

Basically calling Porte out as a quitter. Didn't look like that at the time. Porte looked very upset.

Hearing that at one point Craddock was working to pace Uran back. That surely can't be right? Imagine how bad that must have been for Uran's morale?

"Aha, a team mate dropping back to pace me!"

    Beat.

"Lawson? FFS - how long was I unconscious for, doc?"

I didn't see the crash, only replays, he was surrounded by doctors, it seemed everyone thought Porte had busted his shouder including the teammates who rejoined the race.

Also you can dislocate or separate your shoulder and really mash it up and render your arm unusable or next to useless so maybe he didn't break anything, it doesn't mean he'd have been able to handle his bike.

The people I really feel sorry for after that stage are the poor sods who have to try and edit that down into a 45 minute highlight package. It was barely possible to follow what was going on in real time.

Wow, Bardet has a dig. Though he was long dead.
    Good shout on Degenkolb btw.
Cheers. He's been doing OK but flying under the radar until today.
Think some signs have been there, he's been getting top 10s in the sprints hasn't he?
It's true, he has been doing okay under the radar, but, apart him from knowing the cobbles, the other reason I picked him for PTP was that about 3-4 days ago he made it pretty clear in an interview that his most immediate ambition was to win a Tour stage and most preferably today's.

I didn't see his interview but in case it wasn't mentioned, his gesture to the skies was to dedicate his victory to a close friend of his who died not long ago.

Got to give a little chapeau to the tiny climbers. Quintana especially. Never in any bother.

    Great stage!
Greipel said afterwards that it was harder than Paris-Roubaix because faster.

    Re Porte:
Danish commentary before the stage suggested he really looked very nervous, scared even, in his interviews - far worse than any of the others that don't fancy the cobbles.

Couple that with GVA being given a free role - which there may have been words about - and maybe Porte wasn't in the best headspace today.

Hypothesis. Crashes, hurts himself, not 100% sure it's broken but doesn't have any belief any more, doesn't think he's got the team with him, and doesn't give it a go to try it out.

The thing that got me about Porte's crash is it seemed to have happened towards the rear of the peloton. If so, what was he doing back there anyway? Same with Dan Martin yesterday really. Anyone with GC aspirations needs to be near the front with team mates around them.

Not much GC action, but I wonder how much it's taken out of Bardet, as opposed to say, Thomas, who looked to have a relatively relaxed day.

Did Porte ride any of the cobbled classics? Maybe should have been encouraged. Alternatively, target the Giro and Vuelta.

Apparently there’s been a lot of complaining about Bardet being paced by a TV motorbike

I am shocked. No way the French would cheat.

The biggest movement of the day was in the all important team competition.
Sky drop a whopping 13 places as the team basically imploded with the Kwiato crash.

Great stage. Dan Martin’s ride was incredible in the circumstances, I feared for him early on as he dangled at the back a bit. Superb ride by Bardet to be fair but you have to question whether he was riding in the wrong places to have so many problems. Quintana impressed as well. No doubt in years to come Porte crashing out on this stage will be used as a reason why we shouldn’t have pave in GT stages and will ignore the fact he never actually got to the first sector.

Yeah great ride from Dan. I would like to see him place high on GC. Always comes across well in interviews.

Didn't Porte ride brillaintly with G on the stage when Froome crashed out?

Really feel for him for crashing out 2 consecutive TdFs

Yes he did, just like Froome has done fine on the cobbles in the two times he's actually got there, but people on the interwebs will always spin yarns from things that simply are not there.
