Long way off, but this bodes well for next year's Tour.
Sunweb's TTT maybe suggests he could have some team support too.

    Let's hope

I know I'm biased but I think that's a great ride from Froome given his efforts this year.

    Dumoulin though - woof

I'm going to phone Cardiff Blues and tell them I've found a player for them.

Several small children taken to hospital having been used as a convenient crash barrier.

    The Pieman wouldn't pay enough.

great course. Whoever thinks that's a bad course is mad - it was ace, both in terms of pacing and bike choice/tactics, and opening it up to more styles of riders.

I'm watching the BBC stream and the Brotherton/Boardman/Gilmour triumvirate have been really good.

Pity about the rain a bit but a great ride by Dumoulin. I hope he targets the Tour next year as it will be great to see how he goes against Froome et al. Hopefully also the TdF will set a decent course this time round and make it a good spectacle.

Great ride by Dumoulin, but great from Froome too. He didn't need this but put on a good show

Interesting time splits for the climb. Roglic absolutely flying, Froome running on fumes

  • All the more impressive that Dumoulin almost matched him given Roglic was the only one of the last few to go who switched bikes for the climb.

I think that really paints the picture of Froomes fatigue there.

For all the moaning from Tony Martin, he was better up the climb than he was on the flat ha

  • I really enjoyed that. I was a bit dubious about the course beforehand, but it provided a fantastic spectacle. In the end, one of the best TTers in the world won it and the reigning champion finished just outside the medals. It was dominated by pedigree TTers.

Dumoulin didn't just give it some beans, he gave it all the beans. Heinz are ceasing baked bean production until next harvest.

Think it's ultimately good for the sport Froome didn't smash the Worlds TT after winning 2 GTs. Shows how difficult it is to stay on top of your game for so long - and makes him look a bit more "human" (OK he still looks like a comic book alien, but you know what I mean).

    Dumoulin, what a hero :)
  • 57 seconds between first and second, 46 seconds between second and tenth.
Dumoulin in interview with Sporza said his power meter numbers were off the charts.

    My man Dumoulin! Yay!

Surprised that Roglic switched onto the XR4 and not the specialissima... given that the later is Bianchi's claimed lightweight climbing bike.

The thing is neither the Tour or the Vuelta were big on ITTs this year either so Froome wouldn't really have been doing a lot of TT training I think. He'd also said he did a fair bit of training at altitude after the Tour to prepare for all the climbing in the Vuelta as well.

Not to take anything away from Dumoulin's perfomance though. Even if Froome was trained and ready for the TT I think he would have still struggled to beat Dumoulin who had obviously focussed and prepared for this event for a long time after the Giro.

I hope we get to see them both go head-to-head in the Tour next year with a decent parcours as well. The time trialer who can climb versus the climber who can time trial. :D
