There might be some exciting stage racing, but no one is taking the Red Jersey.
Bar accidents or illness. You never know...

Froome will recharge his red blood cells tonight, and take another couple of minutes tomorrow.
Then save his best for the last few days.

He can do that coz he has the athlete asthma.

    Or a repeat of Formigal!

I think Sky will be a bit more on top of that this year though.

Is there any chance of running the Premier League along GT lines - lets say two blocks of 19 matches / 3 weeks, with a month off between the blocks for various cup matches. Same starting 11 for a 19 match run, no subs.

That would give plenty time for the winter shut down.

If Contador hadn't had that bad day early on...

How did that work out then?

    Dullest Vuelta Ever

You think? I think it's been brilliant. I think it's got better and better as it's gone on. Plus, Froome is on the verge of doing a double and in the last 30 years, not many have done that.

    Roche: '87
    Indurain: '92 and '93.
    Pantani: '98

    That's it.

More successful breakaways than the Tdf, some great individual rides/wins too.

Edit:- Eurosport got it sorted just before the Angliru but I had my whole afternoon planned around watching today.

Well, the Red Jersey may have been confirmed by the TT but the other racing has been very entertaining.
    Cheers Bertie!

Will miss AC. Cycling has become so scientific that rider A going uphill is 20 watts off his maximum or is near his peak HR and not going to risk an attack in case he pops and gone are the explosive attacks and spontaneity (seemingly). Maybe that's just me. AC contradicted that.
I hope the M A Lopez's et al and the next generation can provide some variation to that theme. There seems to be a lot of riders with huge potential coming through and I hope they reach their potential simultaneously and that is a mouth watering prospect.
SKY have written the formula and put together a great team (Poels could be a team leader in his own right), lead by a great rider but if SKY folded tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear.
Even when Aru jumps ship, he's passed it. Nibali put up a great fight without the backing that other riders had (Sunweb, SKY, Trek SF, for example).
When 1 rider is so strong (Indurain, dare I say it LA, Froome) in the GT's, it dampens the whole game. I think that's why in contrast, the Classics provide a lot more entertainment and less predictability. That maybe because of the contrast alone.

I'm sorry if there's not enough bollox in the above post.

yes, i will miss contador too, and voeckler, and cancellara, even bloody vino, for all the known/suspected cheating, the era of la/schleck/evans/contador/etc. seemed far more colourful and exciting than today

changes in sponsors and shifting marketing focus play a part, and the dire economic situation, i still miss euskaltel-euskadi

perhaps it's just corporate bland-out, but imho it would be interesting to see if banning all real-time rider measurements (power, heart, cadence) on uci worldtour events helped liven things up a bit

Loved Euskatel-Euskadi. Perhaps ban race radio too.
Technology is definitely playing too much of a part, I agree.

I agree with all of the above 3 posts. It is too controlled today.
Racing needs loose canons to keep it entertaining.

    I agree with PBlakeney

When Roger Hammond got Sagan ejected from this years tour, you knew it was more about corporate politicking than bike racing

I , too, miss those men in Orange. If you hang around these parts for long enough though, you'll see a full kit w@n ker riding around with the Basque flag on his @rse, resplendent in said orange :D

The only way your wheels will fall off is that you run out of beer.
