All those endless switchbacks in the last 20km's and seemingly identical (aside from left or right) not good enough for you?
I dream of a descent like that.
Well, I am planning an Alps trip next year which includes the Lacets de Montvernier.
Think I go up it though. Oops!
Doubt Spanish TV companies use Lynx helicopters though.

Edit:- My personal preference is for hairpins up, and fast smooth sweeping descents.

Don't worry, I got the Lynx joke first time round.

BTW I was out hillwalking with the boy one last Sunday and two Apaches and a Sikorsky flew overhead.

Old Bertie showed everyone what it takes to beat Sky.
Let's hope some teams or riders have learned.
Sitting on the wheel of someone who will beat you in a TT is not a tactic.

Still all too dependant on Froome having a mishap though.

Bertie's attack led to Froome taking risks, and failing. IMO. His skills have shown to be lacking in the past so putting him under pressure seems a viable option. Possibly the only one.

Seems a bit out of character to me as Froome has been descending very well the last couple of years. Remarkable turnaround really.

Contador really turning back the years...

Unfortunately he got off to a slow start. Understandably. Froome to extend his lead on Tuesday at which point it will be over. Or, can Lopez TT? Fingers crossed.

To the tune of almost 4 minutes over 40km?

There's a shed load of good Colombians coming through. Can we see NQ winning another GT? I'm not sure.
I do like the articulate Mr Chavez.

Not a chance of taking the lead. I just meant keeping the pressure on for the climbs to come. Mr. Chavez? Good bloke.

He did one good TT in Suisse but generally expected to lose a packet to Froome (like everyone else).

Watching Yates go pop yesterday was amusing... He pretty much ground to a halt.

How much of that was psychological after Lopez shot past like a ferret on fire? Had he had a better gap, maybe the adrenalin would have kicked in.
However, he's always up there in the best young rider category and I think we can look forward to Yates' career. I do like him.
Might be interesting times ahead given the Colombian talent, some rising French stars, Spanish riders with huge potential and 1 or two of 'our own'. (Inverted commas because I don't have any nationalistic tendencies in cycling. I think those years and tears of diddley squat from the Brits made me see the professional peloton and cyclists differently).

I reckon it was physical rather than psychological - he clearly slowed up when he heard Lopez was bridging, he jumped on Lopez' wheel when he came past and held it for a couple of hundred meters, then he'd had it.

I think after his earlier efforts to get across and then to try and hold Lopez at altitude like that he was just cooked.

To be fair that doesn't only apply to cycling.

Froome is strong isn't he? A few crazy steep gradients to come though. I enjoyed watching Bert give it a pop. Will he nick a podium? While twirling his moustache with an asthmatic dog in his jersey pocket?

    Saturday will decide it.

(Or it will be a completely damp squib)
  • Froome will recharge his red blood cells tonight, and take another couple of minutes tomorrow.
Then save his best for the last few days.
