He is, tho not sure he realises. Seems to just be sitting at the back atm so probably thinks he's still in the peloton.

Chris B calls out in horror as dog hits a rider... But it might be a video, rather than live this stage!

I don't want to think about hitting animals today. It's a bit raw.

Yep. Let them go and point out to the sprinters teams that giving them a twenty minute lead isn't going help their guys make the time cut.

    Yup.
Plus the bonus seconds are more crucial to Bardet and co, than Froome.
    Numpty tactics you would think.

Froome wants to win the stage. I think that outweighs these other considerations.

I also wonder if Sky have half an eye on the team competition (they lead AG2R by about ten minutes - no other team in contention)

Other than Ag2r, there is no other team within 97 minutes.

I hadn't realised before, but Sky haven't won the team comp before, so I suspect that is on their ticklist.

I do hope Froome does make a go of trying to win the stage. Whilst he might yet win the TT, I'm not too comfortable with a TdF winner who hasn't won a single raced stage (admittedly he has been close though).

Just an interest in terminology - when a group goes off the front from a breakaway group, it does make me smile that the dropped group are then referred to as the "counter attack" when they are nothing of the sort (mostly)!

Irizar looks a bit banged up.
Now that is Jo Rowsell on Eurosport.
Well done for having G's win as her tour highlight so far.

When it went to bits the other day I had a look at the live tracking, and all but about 30-40 riders were classified as counter attacking at one point. It was the best summary of the chaos that I'd seen.

Am I right that so long as the the points for the Cat 1 climb get hoovered up by the break, Barguil has the mountains jersey sewn up before the MTF?

Bit disappointing that Matthews didn't even try for those Green Jersey points to 'earn' rather than inherit the jersey ... Always remember Hushovd making a point of getting the extra points to shut Cav up after the DQ in '09 ... It just removes any doubts as to who the winner should be ...

I don't think Matthews needs to prove to anyone that he has worked hard for the jersey he's wearing now with his efforts over the last couple of weeks, despite the issue with Kittel.

Not sure Jo Rowsell Shand has any insight to offer on road cycling at the highest level ... She might not be sure either judging by her input so far ... A story about doing a sportive isn't really expert opinion is it?

But Cavendish was still in the race though. Hushovd needed those points. He only won by ten in the end.

He'd have been there if Kittell was still in the race ...

    And Demare. And Sagan.

You need to make it to Paris to get the jersey.

Also, IMO his celebration on the podium yesterday - as if he had successfully challenged for and took over the jersey - was a little bizarre. Having said that, I didnt catch any interviews etc so don't know if he said he took over the jersey in unfortunate circumstances

In the ITV4 interview he said more about Kittel than he did about himself. Handled it very well I thought.

Also, if Matthews feels the need to pick up points he still has another couple of stages to do that on doesn't he?

They are probably trying to defend Emu’s 15th place in the GC, currently slightly threatened by Feillu, Pauwels, and Betancur, all in the break.

He did that yesterday. I think he's done more than enough to earn the jersey.
