    Matthews won in some style.

Froome is back into yellow - Froome finished in the front group, Aru completely ballsed that up.

Good tactics from the tactically inept Team Sky.

Does the 3 second rule apply? I'm not convinced there were any gaps that big.

Great timing by Matthews and good team work by Sunweb.

Very good tactics by Sky and equally bad by Astana.

Yep, confirmed 4 second gap after Froome and Uran. Did Bardet miss out too?

There was at least one huge gap before Aru came in.

Astana just haven't got the horses. Great riding by Sky, all the same.

I think that's where the lack of team support comes in but still surprised how far back Aru sat. Didn't have today as a day for a change on GC.

I timed it as 23 seconds between Froome and Aru - gain in time will all depend on where the gaps are judged to be. There is already a group at +13seconds so Froome will have got yellow back

Bardet and Yates @ 4s. Aru some distance later.

Aru given as +26 seconds and Froome as +1

    Froome leads by 19 seconds
  • there's no way that gap wasn't more than 6s

    meh to Matthews
  • that was poor from Astana

Just tell him to sit on Froome's wheel as soon as you see Sky massing at the front. Doesn't need much team support for that, and had plenty of time to get it sorted out.

Agreed. Love him on the bike.

Top 4 all within 30s of each other. Good race so far.

Great awareness by Froome, always racing. Excellent win by Mathews as well. Would love to see Uran Uran on the podium in Paris and Aru off it.

    A thought for the day...

If Landa has accepted his position as no.2 in the Sky ranking, then it follows that he will not finish ahead of Froome in the GC.

On that basis, whatever card Sky play with him is irrelevant. He is not in the game anymore.
That's all very well for the yellow - but most teams are riding to protect podium, top 5 positions and Landa is a big threat there.

How is anyone else to know whether he's accepted his position or not? If he's down the road and suddenly finds himself in yellow then all bets are off.

Well I agree. I was just making the point that all these people arguing Landa is out of the game on the basis Sky might not "let" him take yellow are ignoring the rest of the race - the teams with a shout of a podium spot will ride for that.

People in the Tour ride to protect top 15s...

I was agreing with you. Could have sworn I'd typed 'also' at the start

    :)

Further to this, looking at the rankings Bardet has the most dangerous team of the people above Landa. Bardet is currently in 3rd overall at +23s, less than a minute ahead of Landa - next time Landa gets up the road AG2R will surely chase.

I was worried for a minute that Luke may have compromised his lanterne rouge lead but was relieved when he said he got dropped with 10k to go so hopefully he rolled in with the bus.
