It's in Nimes so they'll probably send them over the aquaduct

    Stage 17 finish in numbers.

Need more of this - get back to the old school when perfect tarmac was the exception - there's a trend towards gravel riding/cobbles/rough terrain in cycling and no reason the Tour shouldn't reflect that.

It's not just bananas stages like that; there are big GC changing stages banana skins all over the place. Week 1, week 2, week 3.

    None of this 'peaking' malarky.

I'd actually be tempted back Kruiswijk for a top 5 if he's racing for that reason.

I've just noticed that stage 12 (hilly stage) finishes just down the road from where I'm on holiday. I guess it would be rude not to pop over and have a look.

  • Any road book details for the second stage?

Your driver in the caravan would not be impressed...

The eleven man pre-selections have been published and there's a huge shock - no Adam Hansen for Lotto. His run finishes at 18 Grand Tours

Quick Step manage to send a tasty looking team to pretty much every WT race.

As do sky in fairness, but it's less tasty and more so strong it's giphy.gif

I thought Sky looked suspiciously like Quick Step in disguise at San Sebastian, to be fair.

There's 5-7 sprint stages and only one proper sprinter in the entire field (Degenkolb). After him it's down to Blythe, S.Dumoulin and Rojas.

    Lots of breakaway wins then?

Quite probably. The GC teams don't seem to have much in the way of flatlanders either.

    I don't recall sky making an arse of a 2 v 2 sprint?

Has Chaves raced since the tour? Unless he's had a dramatic turnaround since I don't think he'll be anywhere.

I think this might be Froome's year.

I would literally piss with laughter if Sam dumoulin walks away with a handful of stage wins.

    ETA:. Sorry, "little" Sam dumoulin

Nibali is either keeping his powder dry or struggling for form, not looked great in Poland.

  • On the other hand, Poels did look great. Ominously so for Froome's rivals, IMO

He'll look terrible for two weeks then after the rest day ride away from everyone.

That's if he gets there without holding onto a car

Shame - it's been a hell of a run though. I suspect we might not see that record broken due to the way the sport is developing, with teams tapering riders to peak for two of the three GTs.
