A dead thread of mine that I thought I'd resurrect for this.

Just had a quick peep at the early line up for the Vuelta to see which potential GC riders are going and so far we have....

Sky: Froome
Orica: Chaves, Yates x 2
Bora: Majka Konig
Astana: Aru, Lopez
Bahrain: Nibali
Ag2r: Bardet, Pozzovivo
QS: Jungels
Katusha: Zakarin
Cannondale: Uran, Formolo
Sunweb: Keldeman,
Lotto J: Kruisjiwijk, Bennett
Trek: Contador
UAE: Costa

All teams are nowhere near complete, but that's not a bad start!

Good idea. Came in handy, two weeks later.

Both Yates? I thought they would probably take turns... (which may make sense from a fatigue & fairness point of view)

    i.e.
    2016 TDF Adam (White, 4th)
    2016 Vuelta Simon (7th)
    2017 Giro Adam (9th)
    2017 TDF Simon (White, 7th)

    So...
    2017 Vuelta Adam ???
    2018 Giro Simon ???
    2018 TDF Adam ???

I heard both Yates and was surprised.
Also heard Tom D not going - but glad he is.

Will LRP be able to get back in time? Valverde? Fuglsang? Gesink? Love to see them all - but prob none of them

    Is barguil going?

I was touting him as The Next Big Thing to a friend back in 2013, then totally dismissed him to same friend over the winter when we were discussing the upcoming season.

He's obviously now firmly back in team my man, and anyone who says I didn't stick by him thru his lean years can speak to my lawyers.

That's a definite yes, if anything one reads on the CN forum is definite.
Alaphillipe is also a probable/possible depending on how his return goes I suppose.

Soler, Carapaz, Ruben Fernandez are all getting their chances to show what they can do.
So it's all the young hopefuls, plus the Burger King.

I read similar, but still holding out for something more concrete given the obvious short comings of the source.

Also, I imagine FdJ will be taking demare? Was in decent enough form at the You against a stronger field, and he should be well rested because reasons.

Someone somewhere said he wouldn't be during the tour. I remember thinking "maybe he'll ride the tour of Britain".

Getting sent home to spend time with his pregnant wife?

He'll manage. He doesn't seem someone who is fussed about padding out his palmares, as long as he's having fun and making millions.

Movistar's plan was likely all in for Valverde to try and take the Vuelta. Clearly that went up the spout a few minutes into the TDF.

With Nairo & Amador having done the Giro & Tour they're scratching around a bit for GC. Which might mean they go on the tear-up each day via the likes of Anacona & Soler.

Bit of an odd decision, no?

He'd be one of the favourites given there is over 50k of flat TT'ing.

Well the Road Race being more prestigious than the Vuelta goes without saying. But I don't think Dumoulin has much of a chance.

I would have thought that winning a Vuelta is more prestigious and lucrative for both rider and team than the World TT. But I could be wrong.

He put a statement on social media saying he was going for worlds ITT and hopefully the team TT and that he was no longer doing Vuelta.

Matt White toying with the idea of using both in a GT, according to the Guardian, although this doesn't mention this year's Vuelta. Says they have different strengths, interestingly:

What, beyond sitting last wheel of the favourites group in any mountain stage?

Haha, I was thinking this for a lot of this tour. If they weren't British they would get a lot of grief on here for being wheelsuckers.
