Good to see it is catching on.
No. I really like seeing the national champs jerseys. And not any of those half-arsed ones like Nibali's above, but proper ones.
Say what?

HarumphIt's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
Does it make it slightly more difficult for riders in the peleton to identify teammates? Makes it more difficult for me watching the telly.0
-
Full Dutch champ jersey with matching blue shorts was an absolute winner.
Now it looks like a crap British champ jersey.0 -
Hmmm, not sure I'd necessarily agree with that. IMO a more striking jersey is going to pick a rider out of the 200 others in the peloton and draw some attention to the team and the sponsor(s); having what looks like yet another team kit in there isn't exactly maximising your exposure as a team.
I've always thought the British National Championship jerseys are massive missed opportunities; a huge Union Jack on the back of a rider would certainly draw attention more than just the three plain stripes that currently look as though they could represent France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Paraguay etc etc etc...
I'm just waiting for someone to come up with a design like the Norwegian or American ones. Are British Cycling somehow involved in sanctioning the designs, because they're remarkably and consistently dull from year to year?0 -
I no likey this shiz
National jerseys should be resplendent in their full glory, not squeezed into the team kit design in the manner of a few pixels0 -

miss read the comment and thought you meant he had no colours on at all. Think they need to make sure that bands go all around the jersey and aren't just stripes across the front and back.
Agree our national champs jersey is rubbish.. the Union Jack is a very emotive design and turning it intro three rubbish bands never looks very good. Some colours, like the Australia \ German ones, look great in bands together, ours doesn't.
Bora had their national ones looking pretty good..
Anyone know what the official UCI rules are ?0 -

Compare and contrast:
For shame.
At least it sounds like Aru's going for the traditional campione jersey. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
National jerseys were all well and good when there were only six countries in the peloton, but now there are about 50. It's too many jerseys. It got to its most ridiculous when Marc De Maar used ride around in Curacao champion's jersey. That's not even a country - it's a liqueurTwitter: @RichN950

That is awful.
It's not often you can make monochrome more boring by adding colour to it.0 -

My immediate thought after Cummings won both titles was that it's a cunning plan to make it easier to lounge around at the back without his DS going nuts at him...0 -

To answer my own question, apparently the national federations do have the final say in the design of the national champ jerseys, so I'm pointing the finger of blame squarely at British Cycling for the dull British stripes:

so it's looked rubbish for 50 years.. always felt the same about the Olympic kit too, that could do with a lot of improvement.0 -

Interesting fact, but all I'm hearing is that British Cycling are over 30 years behind UK Athletics in ditching the boring stripes and going for something more interesting0 -

How many will there be in the Tour de France this year?
Naesen, Henao, Stybar, Demare, Cummings, Aru, Sinkeldam, Herrada, van Rensburg, Sagan, Burghardt, Kwiatkowski
Any more?0 -

Bauer, Castroviejo and Boasson Hagen as TT champs, probably others

Wonder what the most national jerseys fielded by a single team in one race is? (Not necessarily the Tour, but that could be a supplemental anorak question)0
-
The British Champs jersey is classy. Far better than a brash Union Jack jersey in the style of the US gaudy Captain America jersey would be. Plain white jersey with broad red, white and blue stripes is tasteful. Even Blythe didn't manage to make it look too tacky!0

10% of the field for one or both then.0 -
I don't to miss an opportunity to make this point as any regular at the BR London drinks will confirm. The only national jersey on show should be the one for the country they are in. An exception can be made for stages that cross borders. Then there can be two.
If you want a super special stripy jersey to wear all over the world, win the worlds.0 -
I agree that our national champ bands are not obvious and can be mistaken for the flag of the Netherlands.
I've often wondered why our national champ jersey isn't like the British Cycling Team jerseys?

Makes sense.
What about the European champion? Should Castroviejo wear national or European kit in the TTs?0 -
I think we can all agree that the European Championship is a joke.0

I must face three trials, each more devilish than the next.
1. Only the pennented man shall pass. Identify the flag. Usually I'm good at this. But can you tell the difference between Ireland and Cote d'Ivoire or Romania and Chad?
2. For the second test I must remember who won that championship. At the Tour they have recently shuffled the pack to make it more difficult
3. Then I have to remember what team they are in.Twitter: @RichN950
