A climbers race - Sep Vanmarke will be happy he got a place (is he riding?)

Haven't seen my climbing men for a while - Pinot geniez Kenny E

The race seems re branded and reinvigorated . Tough start

Astana finally get a win. The last WT team to do so.

Scarponi takes it from Thomas at the finish. Going to be some big gaps from that stage and not all from bonus seconds.

Erbe to come on Wednesday - a truly lovely climb, and then the Bondone on Friday. I love this race - a real mini classic.

Bad form from Sky sending three quarters of a team to support dual leaders preparing for the first GT of the season, in just over two weeks.
Lucky for them that Boots beat Geraint into the leader's jersey.
Landa still looking like a rider who left something behind at Astana.....

After 50km of today's shortened stage there is a four man break - Ackermann, Velasco, Salvietti and Gamper, with around 2mins on the rest of the field.

Original break were caught before the St Justina climb, then Foliforov, Gazzara and Schultz attacked. Sounds like Foliforov ended up on his own on the climb, but he has been joined by Pirazzi, Koshevoy and Landa. 20km to go, just a 30" gap.

Landa's presence will mean that Astana will have to chase this one down.

Caruso joined the leaders but Pirazzi has attacked and has 20" on the others with the peloton 1min further back. Just 10km to go. Still no live pics.

5 leaders together again and 8km to go with a 40" gap.

and Landa has just set off on the attack.

22" for the riders in front (Pirazzi, Landa and Caruso), 3 km to go.

Just going to get live finish line pics by the look of things.

Shame that they've had to lop the Erbe off. I've been up there and it's a really pretty climb. Anything over 2000m at this time of year must be odds on to be out of bounds though.

Sky on the front of the peleton, couple of riders up the road. Orrico has about a minute over a chaser, and a further minute over the group.

Orrico about to crest the penultimate climb. Howard caught by Sky. Boswell doing a good impression of Kiri driving the peleton on. No time gaps being given. Orrico has approx 2 minutes advantage.
