Superb race, massive effort from Gilbert, who looked like he was making a move to take pressure off Boonen.
The Sagan/GVA crash probably wasn't decisive, but the Sep Rowe crash might have been. It was at a key point and took two very strong riders out of the chase.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

Sounds like I missed a cracker. Where's Iain these days? I'd like to see if it gets the ultimate praise of a 6/10 rating!0

Even with 90k to go the Muur still provided the main selection.0

The race was already won and he wanted the podium.
Of course, but you're sat in a 3 man group with your teammate taking the win 30 secs up the road, and you lead out the sprint? Weird thing to do.0 -

I think Terpstra made a move beforehand but was caught.0 -

Can you imagine the favourites arriving at the d'Arenberg next weekend, half asleep?
Cos that's what happened today.

Yup. It would have been a different race if GvA and Sagan had been more attentive on the Muur (though less good obviously)0 -
That was a quality race! Not sure Gilbert would definitely have been caught but it would have been touch and go.
Also top PTP for me!Kingstonian wrote:Bloody missed it

You guys like to give them stick.
Still reckon Sagan would've won if he hadn't fooled it up though.0 -

Superb sacrifice from Gilbert, who was meant to be the hare for the dogs to chase. Kept going when Boonen meched on Boonenberg. I'll give them credit for that, and for forcing the issue so early on the Muur, but they got a fair bit of luck wth Sep, Rowe, Sagan and GVA crashing.
I don't think this was the result they were looking for - think they wanted to put Boonen on the top of the podium (fair enough), but once the race unfolded they took advantage well.
The interesting thing would have been what would have happened if Boonen or Terpstra got closer to Gilbert. That's where they tend to fall apart.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
