Luka Mezgec wins the no sprint, sprint stage in Slovenia.
An earlier cloudburst turned the streets into a skating rink.
Mass pile ups ensued. The final one taking out both Sam Bennett and Mark Cavendish.

BBC reporting Cavendish missed all the crashes due to being finished (mechanical, actually, but thought I'd get in early with the traditional explanation).

I think there should be a shoot race PTP competition to supplement the main one...not that I am bias or anything...it would certainly have a less predictable nature

    Lovely scenery there today.
Moscon, Rolland and Dillier with about a minute off the front.
G out the back I think (uci channel with no commentary)

They're apparently trying to manage his workload and see how he goes. Some talk of the Tour, although my hunch is that remains unlikely.

Yes, beautiful. I rode up Luz Ardiden earlyish this morning to miss the road closures and get back to Luz Saint Sauveur to see them come through... G was in the third group when I saw him.

  • Nocentini - yes him - currently 2nd overall at Volta Portugal riding for a Portugese team - other teams include an FC porto so im presumbing sponsored by football team. Portugese cycling culture seems to be a bit of a closed book

  • My man Geniez coming back form unknown virus which put him out the Giro takes second in prologue at Tour l Ain

All round mad man Johan Le Bon takes it
  • Cycling mirroring football with Sporting trailing Porto (Nocentini with sporting and Alarcon in Porto)
  • Tour l Ain - French let about the only Spaniard in the race take the stage - Lobato from Bouhanni

and Lobato to top of CG - tougher times ahead though....

    Tour de l'Ain stage 2

"Nacer, why do you have to so aggressive and wound up all the time? Why can't you be more like Peter Sagan?"

"More like Sagan? Ok, boss, whatever you want"

I don't know what actually happened but there were no penalties handed out.

Yes team is Sporting Tavira based on the Algarve. Unfortunately Portugal is very much like the Premiersh-te whereby the whole country support only three teams, so expect a Benfica cycling team any day soon.

It must be stage 2 as Bouhanni is wearing the leader's jersey. Probably right at the top of the straight as they come into view.

Super teamwork from the two FC Porto riders today to put five minutes into the other contenders.
