My mum went to see them in London in about 1954, and we had an LP or two, so I grew up with the songs.

    Was:
'Down in the jungle living in a tent'
    and
    Harry Belafonte singing on it?

Doesn't ring a bell. The show Mum saw was 'At The Drop Of Another Hat', and I think that's the LP I remember.

What a difference the light makes, two (as near as I could get them) identical photos taken today. One around midday when the mist wasn't lifting and the other around 2 hours later when the sun finally came through.

Indeed... there are days of 'flat light' when it's really hard work to get a single interesting shot.

Those are the days for portraits and close ups.
Reference my fungi above as an example when the sun went hiding.

Yes, that's when I tend to go macro fishing, when flatter light can be better than bright light.

I prefer the darker first picture with the strip of sun streaking below the church/building with no people in sight.

Although both pics are slightly wonky pross 😕

Yeah top was definitely the better light. Not sure why they're sloping, I used the feature on my phone that suggests the focal point and displays a line that stretches across the screen when you get the 'right' angle. I think the top one is horizontal but the ground is sloping in front of the church, the lower one has the ground level but not the edge of the watercourse.

It's always annoying when the lines that you think should be parallel horizontals don't quite line up. You can jiggle with perspective plug-ins if it's close enough to be doable without it being ridiculous.

Otherwise, if there are verticals, then I try to get a vertical somewhere in the middle of the photo as vertical as I can, and then shrug my shoulders at the other verticals/horizontals that haven't played ball.

Given the offset in the spray pattern of the fountain I reckon there’s some mysterious gravity glitch going on there to upset your verticals 😀

Another before and after the sun came out comparisons. Hopefully no wonky lines

Good choice - avoiding any 'horizontal' or 'vertical' lines 😂
