More autumn. Brought to you by rain and a polarising filter.

    Nice

The polarising filter is really the only thing I miss from my Rollei 35 & OM1 days. Actually, the depth-of-field preview was sometimes quite useful on the OM1, but the rest of the faffing around I don't miss at all.
I could have been doing with a tripod for more depth of field (you won't notice at this resolution) but needs must when on a stroll with the wife.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

It's starting to sprawl a bit now, but given its population is 130k now, to be able to get from city centre into proper rural scenery within 4-5 miles in nearly every direction is still a delight. I really don't know if I'd bother with riding, other than commuting, if I were in centralish London, or similar.

Not sure about the Ultegra, though.

Ditto. And he was moaning about having to fettle a gear cable that, wait for it... lasts 1 season.

Tiny bit of chop on the lake stopping me getting a great mirror image unfortunately.

    FOUR BLOODY KNOTS

Yeah waaay too fast - no wonder there are ripples on the water.

The number of times I'm disappointed when I think that the Exe is going to be completely calm... either there's just a tiny breath of air, or someone in a boat decides they are going to ruin it all, just to spite me...

Mind you, the slight ripple kinda works in this one from a couple of days ago...

It's the sea. It's supposed to have ripples. If it was perfectly flat it would look like one of those portraits where one side of a face is mirrored to make something very unnatural looking.

It's the unnaturalness and rarity that is appealing. Ripples are just too normal...

    Unnatural looking you say?
Here is one of mine from the weekend. There are some ripples in the bottom right though.

  • I like this.

Is it taken at Hanneford's Quay (where there is space for about 5 cars to park at the water's edge) or farther along near the corner where the road turns inland (so where the Goat Walk begins)?

Eitherway, a lovely place to live.

Kind of confirming my point. The reflection is always very slightly different. I think this slight difference makes all the (ahem) difference. Otherwise it just looks like a CGI.

Close... from the Causeway that goes down from the telephone kiosk at the end of Higher Shapter Street.

I took the shot as it looked abstract through the lens. I find it unsatisfying when seen full size so won't be keeping it. I could digitally crop it tighter and get rid of all ripples.
Any light fall off in the reflection can be rectified too. Using a filter, dodge & burn, or software. It'll still be an unsettling shot IMO though.

That's nice. I've never taken a photo I like of that tarn, but the reflections here make the expanse of water interesting compositionally, instead of being a boring big area in the photo.

@jimmyjams - the causeway in shot here. It's a good time of year for interesting light at this spot, as the sun sets directly at the end of the causeway - the golden glow as I came round the corner was extraordinary.
