Not the Alps but still not a bad morning view

    That's where I live...

    Some great riding around here.
All the times I've been down here I've never had the bike (I used to regularly stay at Stowford when I was a fairly serious cyclist). Either way out of Lynmouth on the A39 is a challenge. Drove over Porlock Hill yesterday which I'd always wanted to try, would need to be out of season though as it's just too busy.
The toll road is much more pleasant on the bike.

But yes, it's a nice area indeed. I reckon the riding is harder than here, though it's rarely 40C there on the other hand.

Is the crazy golf still there?
Not sure about crazy golf, there's still the 18 hole putting.

    36 holes.

    Fact, it's never been 40C.

Yes, the toll road is lovely year round. The hill can be very busy in season, it's OK early morning or in the evening... scrap that, it's never OK, it's a b!tch.

    Where on the coast exactly/
Photo was taken from the south end of Prestwick shore.

Oh okay. I live down the road a little.
You can get some stunning sunsets on the west coast.

Yes. Just south of Girvan where the land flattens out a little.

Lavender's so 'yesterday'. Sunflowers is where it's at now, in the cheesy shots stakes. Seems that mountains are good for things other than climbing up...

Very good. You've inspired me to have a quick play at macro. So far nothing to report.

This one was made easier by its having a plain surface directly behind, and the fly being more interested in the sugary drink I'd spilt than worrying if I was going to squash (geddit?) it. It's all about learning what modern cameras can do well, rather than any technical skill. And then just taking lots of photos for the 'lucky one'.

Nothing special photographically, but the sea was just beautifully clear today.

Is that on the Thames RJS/ It has got a lot cleaner over the past 30 years.
There is (in the Pathe) archives, films of people swimming in the Thames and basking on clean banks of sand very near the centre of London.

    It's in here somewhere...

Ha! No, I'm down in East Devon. Seaton to be precise. The Thames is still a bit murkier than that.

Not yet. Eldest has requested this for tomorrow. We come here every year so know most of the local attractions.

It's probably because I'm away, and not weeing or pooping in it.

I'm back on a new Sony HX60, having bought a Panasonic Lumix TMZ80 a while ago, and really not got on with it. Not only is there way much more on the Lumix than I will ever use, but its HDR setting, which I find really helpful in high contrast sunlight scenes, was terrible: often it gave a ridiculous blue hue to everything, and the greens often ended up unsalvageable.

I really do only want two or three auto settings on my camera, with a decent lens and image chip, and robust enough that it can take the odd knock.

The photos I took yesterday reminded me why I like the Sony - the photo below preserves the luminance that caught my eye, and compensates nicely for how the human eye/brain deals with shadow:

The clarity and definition of that picture is lovely.
My gripe with the Sony SLR I have is with the auto function when it comes to light. It has a zoom lens which you need copious quantities of light and for the camera to be ultra steady to achieve any clarity.
Doing it manually is a PITA and too slow.

My little Sony (although not as versatile) does a very good job on auto.

There really is no impact lost in simplicity.
