Nice sunset this evening.

I know that shadow selfies are mostly boring, but, having said that, I quite like these two on-the-move ones from today, marking the early morning and late evening ends of the ride.

Why are the shadows boring? They add context.
Try cropping the shadows out. That's boring.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Given the amount of photos uploaded on a daily basis these days most photos are clichéd. Just imo.

One of my occasional vertical panoramas in churches... this one in Valence

I think it's fair to say that the autofocus worked quite well on this one... for scale, that's the end of one of my stainless steel clothes-pegs.

Thought it was some priceless bit of ancient Egyptian jewellery at first

Got a better one of rain, with some sunshine contre jour on 1/1600s... still would like to catch it as well as this but 'raining strings'.

Yes, the detail in the reflection was extraordinary.
They are known as a 'punaise' in French, because of the smell they give off if threatened, which is also the word they use (in "Oh punaise!") as a "Oh sod it!" type of expression. The verb 'puer' means 'to stink'.

OK, an attempted selfie to show the gradient... only partially successful, but will be on the lookout for better ones. No idea why I had a finger on the brakes. You might notice I'm on the wrong side of the road too, but it was almost flat on the camera-side of the corner.
2 -
Feels like it needed a slightly wider lens to get the gradient behind you

Weirdly the wider shot levels out the slope behind, despite it being no shallower in reality. Hence the crop.

It's a good little conundrum to work on. Actually not many properly steep bits here, as most of them are designed to be navigable in the snow and ice with normal cars and trucks. And I'll probably find the best steep ones are boring, compositionally. This was quite a pretty little corner, with the light in the right place.

Possibly a reason why you didn't, but how about further to the right so you can get the road leading away and timed 1-1/2 bike lengths forward? That daisy (?) to the right seems peak gradient.

It might be an optical illusion from the camera angle, but I'll see if there's a good angle there next time.

The weather's changed, most of the tourists have gone home, and I'm left with clouds and empty roads to play with.

Like the moody barn. Like a poster for a rural spin off of Spiral where Laure and her daughter have bought an old farmhouse, but....

Nice photo & lighting, but I've also liked it because I've not seen so much parking space on a road in a long time.

Thanks. Just the misty drizzle on the walk back from the station. Most of us have driveways so it's only a few who need to park on the street.

Happy with the composition of this one, caught en route (while riding)... a photogenic hairpin (if not a steep one).
2 -
I used to like this photo of hairpin bends, but no one else really did as I think it is hard to see the multiple strips of road as it drops down the mountain. Even harder on a terrible scan like this.
Here's a bridge I crossed.
3 -
I would suggest roads and bridge are rather abstract in those photos.

Meh, slats? Luxury! 🤣

Boring grey skies here in Cornwall. I hoping for a clear night or two as I have some locations planned for astro stuff but it doesn’t look hopeful so had to content myself with doing postcard cliches for now.

I bet they bought that from Ikea, and the till staff didn't tell them that they had to buy the slats separately, as they also didn't when I bought five beds for the French house.

Tried to get a water drop separating this morning, but with the poor light and the autofocus wanting to focus on the moss behind, despite several attempts, this was the best I got. I got a couple where the droplet was just separating, but they were moving too fast in the poor light to be satisfactory.
Back to Devon tomorrow, so will probably have to get used to autumnal drizzle.
