Tried my hand at light trails last night night, I got lucky with my first as an ambulance came through the shot but it got over-exposed by oncoming cars. I adjusted the lens aperture after and got a better results.

Nice. It was something I’ve wanted to try for a while and was quite pleased with the result but would probably have been better to get up above the traffic. With the arched bridge the central reservation would have been a better spot for the composition but I wasn’t risking that, I already had one eye out for muggers!
  • I've wanted to get a passable photo of a hummingbird hawk moth for a while, and this morning's isn't too bad... probably the best I'll get without much more expensive equipment.

^^ Good job, and you saved the evening once the moon decided not to play ball.

The forecast for next week looks promising for your astro.

Tonight is looking the best bet, need to get in the slot when the moon is just rising and is to the north / east as it is still a bit too full for a really dark sky, It will hopefully be worth trekking out an hour or so to the Beacons.

Nice capture! I’ve seen a few flying around, but haven’t even got close.
(A good example of convergent evolution).

Good luck Pross. There weren't too many stars out last night and no sign of the MW, probably because of the moon, like you say.

Got out to Llangorse Lake and there were plenty of stars. Milky Way was just about visible but very feint. Got a few photos that look OK in the camera but from past experience they never look anywhere near as good once upload. Will see in the morning. Here’s a few off the phone from while I was waiting for it to get dark.

Milky Way was very faint unfortunately (possibly a bit too hazy as the moon was only just rising and was beind the shots) and probably doesn't even show up with the compression on here but quite happy with the results.

Even though this mini heatwave is very welcome, just as a reminder it won’t last, so here are some autumnal flavoured pics. :)

    Cheers @pinno.

I'm not sure if this is your cup of tea (a modern Porsche). I was parked at a marina and came away with a picture of a car :/

The Cayman has outstanding handling and can be obtained from as little as £8k but the 911* has more curves than Sophia Loren, always making the Cayman look concatenated.

*Up until the more recent models.

Thanks. It possesses something more for me in that all the lines created by the light are created by me: the Ranch Bannister upstairs is where the sunlight passed through it at a unique angle only observed for 4 weeks in the year. The banister (European Oak 'mop stick) I installed, the stairs that I repaired.
One day i'll catch more of the geometric shapes around the stairwell in a complementary light.

Many ancient civilizations have used the sun to mark the passage of time, building monuments aligned to events such as harvest, solstices or equinoxes. Well done on building another one, The Pinnhenge Ranch Bannister. Watch out, there’ll be pagan rituals in your stairwell soon. I'm booking my pilgrimage for next year... :D

    Lol

As to the patterns made by light; there is far more default in it than design.
How many druids can I fit in my stairwell...

Autumn…in the woods…in Wales, It felt more like the Panamanian rainforest- a proper sweat box. Steam was rising from the river, which I can’t remember seeing here before. This steamy atmosphere was somewhat lost in camera, looking more like smoke. Dehaze was needed in p-processing to rescue it.

Wanted to have a photo to chare with the French crowd to say I was back in Topsham. Couldn't be bothered to dive into my rucksack to get the camera, so phone had to do... tried it with flash, and it was terrible, but managing to hold it steady on a wall, ended up with something passable, and it caught the atmosphere.

Does the phone still work? Can't tell if the LCD display is lit up or it's a post-it note.

Still works, but I've not seen it being used in years. Amusingly, BT put a sign on the box asking for all the books to be removed, as it's a working phone.
  • Anyway, I know it's not really the done thing to talk about bikes in CS, but I hope I can get away with another photo of a bike.

You can tell it's a posh place when people put books in there instead of 'business' cards

Some boxes here have been converted to defibrillator boxes. They’ve even changed the TELEPHONE sign in the top to you’ve guessed it, DEFIBRILLATOR. Well posh!
The one I noticed recently was in the middle of nowhere. I wonder what the chances are of having a heart attack right outside the box with an assistant to administer.
