Well, I know where to go when it's a bit darker...

The third one I just like for a moody Sunday morning after the all-night rain.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

That'll be the phone, not the operator. Or possibly the Abbey lighting designer.

Westminster (unlikely, as it's 16th century vaulting), or Bath??

Tewkesbury Abbey. One of the 15th century chantry chapels.

The West Door feels oddly modern for something that is getting on for 900 years old.

Thanks. Yes, indeed. Thought that fan vaulting was very much 16th century though... Gloucester, Bath, Ottery...

Tried getting some photos of the blue moon. Headed out with little hope of getting anything due to cloud cover but as I was travelling to my planned location there was a lovely large red tinted full moon with the occasional cloud passing to add atmosphere.

I was hoping to get the moon behind Newport Transporter bridge but it didn’t work out as by time I got there the cloud was more constant, the bridge is having work done on it so isn’t lit up and the moon had got higher to the point that it was no longer impressive.

Ended up trying some night cityscapes and light trails for something different. Some of them look OK on the camera but will have to upload them tomorrow and past experience tells me the camera viewfinder flatters night photos.

I like the third one down. When I got back the cloud had cleared and I could have shot the moon but on its own it would have looked the same as the ones I did last year.

It hasn’t been a great summer for night sky photography. There may be one more chance to get the Milky Way core in a couple of weeks if we get clear skies. I won’t hold my breath though.

Newport is definitely more photogenic in the dark (but makes you wary of getting mugged for your camera!).

^^ Good job, and you saved the evening once the moon decided not to play ball.

The forecast for next week looks promising for your astro.

Haha. Got you now. Some of those sorts of effigies of dead wealthy people are so lifelike it's uncanny, and I probably ought to spend more time on each monument, looking at faces and so on. I'm sure a lot of them tell quite a bit of a tale.

Unfortunately although I've taken quite a few photos of them, I've not collected them together in one place, and my memory hasn't registered where the best ones in Devon (in particular) are, though I do remember that Colyton has some good ones.

  • Darn, can't find any monument photos from Colyton, but this one at Cadeleigh is exquisite:

  • BTW, welcome back, @masjer - miss you when you're not here.

Great skies here tonight as well.
  • In other news, I'd not done this ride since 2015, and I'd forgotten that I got a view of Mont Ventoux from one of the cols. This probably ought to go into the 'cheers me up' thread, as it's only a so-so photo, but hey ho.

Cheers Brain, just a bit of time out.

A bit of beach ‘action’. The BW abstract figures photo, is something I’ve been trying. Basically taking shots of strangers without it being too much of an intrusion, (ie you can’t identify them).

Thanks. I just wish I had a camera with a flippy screen! It would sure make taking them easier.

Yeah. I'm waiting for a camera to be released with the Goldilocks spec (for me).
Flippy screen both landscape and portrait is on of the must haves.
