Counting down - always marked the start of winter training when it used to be published in the comic - planning where i might see it etc - now everyone seems to have a pretty good idea the year before !- I've not looked much at the guesses this year - but official route out next week

If rumours are true though the itt on the penultimate day in Marseille will be a spectacle -!

    Anyone watching this?

Some tweeters suggesting that all stages will be shown from start to finish.... that'll be fun.

So, basically: "Lets make it like a weak Giro."?
Not going to please many folks if so.

La Course to be run on the Isoard stage rather than in Paris. will be the same day as the men tackle it.

The staff aren't going to welcome that 800km transfer on the penultimate night.

And the bike sponsors won't like the small amount of TT.

Croix der Fer, Telegraphe & Galibier stage ending in Serre Chevalier won't be easy.

I read somewhere that it'll probably be skeleton staff only in Marseille, but yes, a very long overnight drive to Paris which won't be popular amongst the mechanics etc.

The move towards steep climbs could be seen as an attempt it get Froome to ride the Tour like he rides the Vuelta. He won't though.

Etape stage - longer than the last couple but less climbing?
  • Pretty though.

The stage to Chambery, with Grand Colombier and it's 22% ramps, includes the Mont du Chat -8.8km at 10%. This was the first climb i ever did in France. Thought it wouldn't be too hard because i'd never heard of it but was evil.

Views from the top of Mont du Chat....not bad (that's Mont Blanc in the far distance)

The descent of the Mont du Chat into Chambery is tough, very steep with a rough surface and lots of hairpins. If it's hot then the climb is horrible, no shelter from the sun and, because it's quite low, minimal temperature drop as you climb.

Just watched the 3D route preview and some stages look amazing. 2D profiles never seem to do the route justice
