I've tried responding more argumentatively twice and each time the server has hung up. So I'm taking that as a sign that I should just bow to RR's superior argument... ;)

We might both be involved with the financial sector, Chasey, but when you start equating torture with swears, something's fooked

I really enjoyed the bikeradar boycott with acompnying dodgy nickname of katyusha cycling during the Ukrainian invasion, as well as during the political clampdown and murder of rivals of the leading governers.

I also really enjoyed the bikeradar boycott with acompnying dodgy nickname of Dimension data who employed Daniel Teklehaimanot, who's success was used as propaganda for the brutal Isaias Afwerki regime.

Oh wait, no, that didn't happen.

Sure. Though you are aware that coffee is tied to a long history of colonialism and slavery, and production of the crop remains a hotbed of exploitation and environmental degradation to this day.

It'll have to be fair trade...

Most cycling teams are a mix of all sorts. I thought that would have a certain natural cosmopolitan and apolitical image.

    Then I came in here.

Whilst we are at it - we shouldn't drink tea. Though you are aware that tea is tied to a long history of colonialism and slavery, and production of the crop remains a hotbed of exploitation and environmental degradation to this day.

...and we shouldn't buy anything from Planet X.

and Soya.. and prawns/reconstituted to look like Scampi bred in the far east fed on a diet of Krill fished from the Antarctic by Norwegians (no less) in giant ships.

Jeezo, this thread is a bit dry this year.

I don't know if you can compare Katusha and Bahrain-Merida. Bahrain-Merida is funded directly by the Kingdom of Bahrain to promote Bahrain; I think Katusha was funded by Russian businesses (though how people like Gazprom fit into the Russian Oligarchy is probably an 'interesting' issue). And whatever we think of Russia, I think Bahrain is worse on the scale of human rights, i.e. their treatment of women, the subjugation of the majority of their population; and their team appears to be a direct effort to 'sportswash'.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

Tell Anna Politkovskaya or Pussy Riot that...

I don't remember a nickname for Astana either...

That Aqua Blue looks quite cool. The Alpecin one reminds me of Liptons Tea too much.

  • Is there any Russian backing still connected to the team? If not, any reason to keep the Katusha name?
