Pretty sure it's a 5km lapNapoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0

this is a guess obvs AtC but laps are usually in the 8 to 10 km range and have 400 odd m of climbing often split over 2 climbs.
that said, Olympic courses are usually differemt hecause they re not in mountains so....yeahWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Thanks. The only info I can find is from the UCI saying a lap has to be between 4km and 6km.Correlation is not causation.0 -

You see nobody knows! You say 8-10 the UCI site says 4-6. This is frustrating me. I know it shouldn't but it is... I can't get into something unless I can quantify it to give it meaning.
Is that 400m of climbing over the whole race or the lap? I didn't quite hear Gilmore when she said how many metres they'd climb and I thought she said 1,500m of climbing. And now I'm having to watch the Dutch coverage and they're like the two grumpy old men from the muppets and are barely saying anything.Correlation is not causation.0 -

Well the leaders seem to lap at about 21.9 kmh that helps0
-
To the untrained spectator's eye it doesn't look that technical. Seems to be mostly about the engine and not having a mechanical.0

13 min 20 lap at 21.8 kmh for leaders0

It looks like Sagan made the right choice to road race. MTB racing is a joke, they may as well have just pick numbers out of a hat, then roll around in the mud for a couple of hours.0

Why do they keep going on about him? It'll take a lot of mishaps in front for him to get a medal. Shame Sagan flatted as I was interested to see how he coped, I know it was early stages but he was looking comfortable on the technical side and should have had the legs.0 -
ddraver wrote:wow, you have a point AtC, there really is nothing. im guessing they didnt even bother to measure that sort of stuff
This is the best thing I've found through googling. https://mpora.com/mountainbiking/rio-de-janeiro-2016-route-olympic-cross-country-mountain-biking-course#lL4gC7wjtgKmcs1H.97Correlation is not causation.0 -

I can't help but think that with Grant, he's just too skinny and lacking the power for this kind of course.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/scalesjason - All posts are strictly my personal view.0

But an Olympic sport? That's a bit of a joke, given that only four of the top 40 surfers don't come from the US, Brazil or Aus.
The issue of decent waves is also there, with most of the Northern hemisphere having little worth surfing in the summer.
Nah you just burden the host country with having to spend millions building some sort of state of the art wave machine / artificial ridge. There is a sporting chance though that it might at least be used afterwards.
A wave garden would definitely be used afterwards, could probably even turn a profit. But the tech is in its infancy, there are only a couple built anywhere in the world, and there's no format for competition surfing on them. Current world surfing has a huge component of understanding the wave you're surfing, gaining priority, and picking the best waves. Running it in a wave pool wouldn't be that different from running the road race on 1500 laps of the velodrome.
Most likely we'll see the event run in small natural surf, which will mean it's dominated by Brazilians throwing the biggest airs they can. The traditional judging criteria will go out the window, but those who are new to watching it will probably like it.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

The Dutch have had adverts for the last 5 minutes. They're obviously very interested in the race.Correlation is not causation.0

Unlike this XC course - which is on military land so will be bulldozed after the race.0 -
