Well I'm enjoying my beer and not being at work but hardly thrilling stage. nice to see purito doing well, and meintjes doing well.

4 min lead means froome has this in the bag provided he sleeps alright. wonder when he gets his knighthood

Is there a link to the GC placing as at now? The Race Centre page isn't updated yet ...

More wet descents tomorrow and I keep hearing how nasty the final one into Morzine is... if I were Froome I'd be pretty worried about how the stage might go especially after today.

When he gets an Olympic gold (all the Brits really care about!) - today might have helped with that one.

Yip. I've hit the deck coming down there in the wet. 4 mins still a decent buffer.

Potentially a French rider in second. It's been a while since that happened.

I must be in a minority who think this has been a pretty decent Tour.

We moan about it not being the Tour for 49 weeks of the year and then complain every day its on.

    Well done Romain.

To be fair, there are a lot of complaints on this forum, but that's not one I've heard before.

Poels aside, his team didn't need to do much today though.

    Was that entertaining enough folks?

I'll take the bait. It was a pretty entertaining stage for the first day in the mountains. A nice group of GC riders finished together. Hopefully, we'll see some racing from them over the next few weeks.... oh.

Touche. Two years is clearly a long time in my memory.

I really enjoyed it. Screw the naysayers :)
  • Poor TomDum

    Poor Mollema

    Poor Yates

    Brave Titchie

    Fab Bardet

I wanted Quintana to win this race but now I'm left thinking he doesn't quite deserve a podium spot (which is a bit silly)

Geraint Thomas explained how he gave Froome his bike after the race leader crashed.

"I could see Froome on the front and he was saying chill on the radio but he doesn’t do chill, does he," Thomas said.

"All of a sudden he’s on the floor and going ‘I need a bike, I need a bike,’ so I gave him mine. Then I waited for the team car although they did drive passed me."

"I wasn’t going to run to the finish but luckily they stopped a few hundred meters laters and I got on this, and that was that."

He was on his own, last man in, 35'42" behind Bardet.

Dumoulin has a small fracture in his wrist, confirmed by his team.

Confirmed by his team as making the time cut despite rolling in on his own, according to a retweet and translation by Inrng. Sam Bennett was the wrong side of a small split in the grupetto but had over a quarter of an hour in hand so won't be unduly concerned.

Mollema back where he belongs... the podium looks a bit more like a Tour de France podium...

... and then there is tomorrow... a wet Joux Plane descent could still change things

If it is wet it'll be interesting to see how Froome rides that last descent - assuming all the GC men go over the top together will he let others take the risks for the stage win or for GC places and let a couple of minutes of his lead go to ensure he doesn't crash ? They got lucky with the weather really as there was rain in the area all day and some of the earlier descents looked interesting.

I really enjoyed today anyway - a decent stage at last with a real battle for GC placings. Glad Froome hasn't lost the race due to misfortune but also glad it did mean they weren't jumping on every rider that went off the front.

Can't say Quintana deserves to be anywhere near the podium, so hope Yates finds his legs tomorrow and kicks his arse!

Bad news on that front. Yates has a 10s penalty & a fine after today's stage, due to handsling

Why because he held on to a bike on ventoux ? It was a bit cheeky I suppose but I'd like to see how long he had hold of it for.
