It's such a Zubeldia thing to do, to get into a break with 29 other people, so he's not noticed

interesting distance and profile, it looks like the hardest UK 100 miles sportive... so you can assume that the best amateurs out there would finish the stage in 5:30 hours or thereabout... let's see what the PROs do

Can't believe the odds on Voeckler are over 60+/1 right now, he's clearly in good shape. Keeping him as my outside for the day!

I still haven't spotted Zubeldia. To be fair I've been browsing last year's holiday snaps of the Grand Colombier. Some great views of Lac du Bourget from up there.

    Race situation:

    Dumoulin
Jarlinson Pantano, Alexis Vuillermoz and Nibali
    Rest of the break
    Peloton.

Dumoulin sitting up to wait for the other 3, about to join up

Edit: that appears to be Pozzovivo in the lead group rather than Vuillermoz (Pozzo is #48)

All back together with riders being shelled out the back.

OK I was disturbed by the cat. So what have I missed? Dumoulin's bridged?

Zubeldia dropped! He get's a mention on the commentary.

Rare shot of the gruppetta which contains the usual suspects including Cav and Greipel.

Wey hey loads of screen time for Zubeldia!

He's just had more screen time in this stage than he has in his whole career.

Yep. I nearly came a cropper descending it last summer after hitting a massive pothole.

Dumoulin might be expecting to pace back on but Nibali shouldn't be getting dropped like that

Quite enjoying the action in the break.

Put a couple of small in play bets on.

Zubeldia (couldn't resist it) at 100-1
    Navarro at 40-1

The Grand Colombier is a real ridge, you can really see it in this photo.

    grand_colombieraline_perier.jpg

So it is nasty steep in places.

The Mont du Chat a bit further south is the same.

    Certainly looks that way.

*IF* they get caught by the group, could be a good day for Alaphilippe and Pauwels.

I went up the side they are about to descend in October... the road was terrible, gravel everywhere... I *assume* it will have been sorted out since then

    great photo BTW

I hope it has because it was awful. On both sides. I almost called for someone to come and get me in the car. I also stupidly forgot a jacket so was freezing. The photo is courtesy of google, I didn't have a helicopter when I took some crappy iPhone photos at the top.
