Alex Howes (Cannonade) crashes by himself. Meanwhile Vichot and Howard are 3 minutes up the road ahead. Sky leading the peloton.

If there is an attempt to create echelons it won't happen until after the cat 4 climbs. At the 90km to go mark at the very earliest.

I reckon it could be as late as the final 25kms.

    The latest weather for tomorrow:-

Now times have changed, Chalet Reynard almost certainly.

Strong wind to favour the shorter rider... hence Quintana is the favourite

Yeah, that's why all those windy Belgian classics are won by short people.

That's different... on the flat is pure power, the bigger riders are more powerful... while uphill is power/weight... assuming Froome and Quintana have the same power/weight, then the smaller figure gives Quintana an advantage

The greater the wind the greater the proportion of the resisting force it causes - and as such the less the proportion gravity causes. Hence, it favours the rider with greater raw power rather the greater power/weight.

I might concede the wind affects the racing less in the mountains, but to the extent that it does, surely it disproportionately hinders small riders for the same reason it does on the flat?

On the flat, it’s not just about power. It’s about power versus drag. Bigger riders have slightly more drag but a lot more power, hence their strength against the wind.

All that said, Quintana is not your average small rider. He has an incredibly low position when he needs to (remember his 150 km Route du Sud breakaway), and he’s also simply powerful. I think the GC battle on Mont Ventoux will be won by smart racing rather than stature.

If we don't know how the two quantities compare, it's impossible to pick one, I say it's Quintana day...

Do we know wind direction Vs climb direction?

Kelderman the only GC guy with a major problem so far.

In similar conditions (50Km/h wind) I climbed Tan Hill last year (9 Km at 2% average) going up at 6-7 Km/h... interesting to see how fast theyll go up Ventoux if it's head wind... some might go backwards!

He can take it a bit easier now he's caught behind the split too.

Anyway, I'll stick to todays stage for now... EQS to mess up their lead-in and Kittel has bad positioning. Someone else wins.
