Edit :Just noticed that they have specified any athlete having had a doping ban is banned. Personally i think that's wrong as other competitors previously banned are allowed to compete.

It will be thrown out by CAS too. You can't punish someone twice for the same offence.

Not convinced on that the CAS don't seem to be of a mind to grant any concessions to Russian competitors just now

Aru is presumably now a doubt following his meltdown on stage 20?

    Dumoulin also?

"This year, the US women enter as the reigning world champions in team pursuit and will ride on bespoke bikes—their Felt TA/TRD bike features a radical departure from cycling tradition: the gears are on the left-hand side and will be watched over by IBM’s Watson cognitive computing platform."

Tom Dumoulin has been given the all-clear to go the Olympic Games just four days after fracturing his wrist in a crash at the Tour de France.

"I am just really happy to be able to ride the bike again so soon," Dumoulin said.

"The preparation went a little bit different than planned. However I have good medical support with now almost two weeks to go, the brace and special exercises. We'll go for it."

    My thoughts.

6 make it over the top together of the last climb - Piti, Martin, Froome, Lopez, Alaphilippe & Nibs.

Nibs goes for it on the descent, gets caught with 4km to go.

Martin makes a break with 1km to go, gets caught.

    1. Ala
    2. Bala
    3. Lopez
    4. Froome
    5. Martin
    6. Nibs

I'd hate to be responsible for making sure everything was packed. Imagine getting there, realising you'd left the crate of pedals behind and having to run off to the Rio branch of Halfords to try to find a spotty oik who actually knew what a pair of Look Keos actually are!

I think there may be a larger group over the top - Bardet, Yates, another Colombian, Poels, Porte - and the group breaks in two in the run-in

I'm looking forward to seeing how Sagan goes in the MTB too.

Meh. Surely it's been established that such a move constitutes punishing someone twice for the same offence?

CAS will through it out before lunch, Shirley?

Who's suggesting someone is being punished twice for the same offence?

To my mind this article says that there are 26 disappearing positives and they have requested the samples. Of these, potentially there could be 3 or 6 riders responsible.

But it can be interpreted in any number of ways as it's not very clear.

The UCI confirmed today that three cyclists will be unable to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro due to the IOC Executive Board's decision to ban all Russian athletes who have served doping bans in the past.

Cyclingnews understands that Katusha's Ilnur Zakarin, winner of a stage in the Tour de France, and 2012 Olympic double bronze medalist Olga Zabelinskaya are two of the athletes who have been withdrawn by the Russian Olympic Committee

To be fair, Russia should've been banned completely, indefinitely. All sports.

    Otherwise nothing will change.

Wasn't it CAS who left it to individual sports to decide what Russians could participate?

    Pursuit training

"The GB squad, which consists of Wiggins, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Owain Douall, cranked up the pressure on Australia’s world champions by eclipsing the time of 3mins 51.659secs which has stood since Britain won gold at London 2012."

    Good innit.

In other news I caught up with a mate yday re the Colombian squad. Uran and Henao to be the 2 capos in Rio. But if Pantano makes the breakaway that stays out front into the final circuit, he might well get away on the final 6km descent before the run-in...

I was there to watch Becky. All nicely laid on for family members.
Said to my sister at the time that it was the tightest I'd ever seen a TP ride.
A pretty fair crowd had turned up and gave it some atmosphere.
I hadn't realised how quick it had been though, as I forgot to time it.
Had to wait until RR told me.

The whole team looked in great nick.

Associated Press get their reporters to predict every single medal for the Olympics.

Here's what they have for the road cycling -

    MRR: 1. Valverde, 2. Costa, 3. Bardet
WRR: 1. Gaurnier, 2. Van Der Breggen 3. Vos
    MTT: 1. Froome, 2. Dumoulin, 3. Kiryienka
WTT: 1. Van Der Breggen, 2. Villmusen, 3. Brennauer

For GB they have a total of 5 Golds (including Becky James - no pressure Blazing), 2 Silvers (including Cavendish) and 1 Bronze

No medal for Sagan in the MTB

    Let's see how they do.

"Flag Mountain:A natural hill that is the highest point of land, riders climb about 1km to the summit, making it one of the longest cross country climbs in the world (see top photo). “It opens the competition up to a broader range of riders,” said Floros. “It’s not super steep, it’s pretty gradual, so the bigger riders should be able to stick with the smaller guys.”
