Decided work meh is crappy crappy crappy, well being a vet is crappy crappy crappy at least, especially when you live in Wales and hate lambing. As such I've got myself an interview for a PhD in a couple of weeks. Sadly this will involve the end of my bike buying habit.

    Oh well. It's only temporary.

And heres my kid studying like mad to become a vet...funny old world.

Good luck to her/him (probably her though). I don't regret doing the training at all, in fact I can't imagine having done anything else, but at the moment about 50% of vets leave the job within 5 years of graduating. Fortunately there's shedloads of opportunities outside of being a traditional vet.

Amazed so many give it up, good degree to have anyway in terms of the high standards required to get in and then to pass. The average phucktard wouldn’t get anywhere near it.
Big difference between country vet and suburban cat neuterer I should think.

    Afternoon animal fisters,

Been darn the smoke (Angouleme) to collect a shower and a bath, bet you didn't think there were such things in France, the lad who served us hasn't heard about them!
Where's Gtfish bloke? Trying to get the racy pictures of his mum back off Tlw or has V68 gone full Italian mobster on his intelligent ass?

She'll almost certainly be a fluffy small animal vet if she makes it. Just lining up some summer work experience for her now.

What sort of other stuff can do you do with a veterinary degree if you leave vetting?

Anyhow, I prefer my job as if I c0ck up I don't kill anything.

I have several, but some are more demanding than others.

A day of many jobs and much moaning from Stressbag, especially after I accidentally knocked a tacky old picture frame from a window sill and broke it. Wonder if I can concince the vet that she's a large rodent that needs putting down humanely?

Anyhow, we decided we couldn't be arrived to cook so Thai take away on order and plonk chilling in the fridge.

    Evening bumders

Today involved bikes and arsing around not doing a lot. SWMBO is away pet sitting for one of our friends (they trust her more than me  ) so I've got the house to myself, as a result it's an absolute tip.

Research, work for drug companies, plenty of government work and opportunities, conservation and environmental work, opportunities in the NHS as scientists, farm/animal park management, even got a friend a couple of years above me who's now a finance knob in the city. Oh, there's even an American vet who's a NASA astronaut.

That doesn't happen too often fortunately, get things die without you actually c0cking up sometimes which is quite frustrating. Anyway, it's far worse if you c0ck things up when you're trying to kill something. Trying to explain to an owner that their beloved furry thing just won't die is a bit awkward.

    Morning twunts,

Rugby was good yesterday but the results didn't go the way I'd planned so,I'll jump on the bandwagon and blame the ref though the scotch team were just a bit too good on the day.

Cold n sunny here today so some work in the jardin is on the cards.

    Thanks Birdy,

I won't start tell in her that there are alternatives if it all goes t1ts up, probably a bit premature as she still needs to get in.

    Morning wasters,

More jobs and physio beckons. I'm seeing the quack the week after next and hopefully he might at least let me ride a roadie bike soon. Better than nout.

    Morning, wannabes.

After a very relaxed weekend that involved booze, rugby and bikes it's back to earth with a bump.
I'm looking forward to the blizzards that are being forecast as it will mean I have to stay at home if they materialise - living on top of a hill has its advantages sometimes. However, I am sure it is all cow droppings as the Met Office seem to overemphasise everything since the Michael Fish "There won't be a hurricane" fiasco in '88 and we will probably get about 2-3mm of snow.
I think I'll pop to the shop this afternoon and buy 25 loaves of bread and 100 litres of milk. You know, just in case.

They are all ready planning to close all of the schools near us ready for the 'severe' weather. I know I will get flack for saying this, but how come everyone manages to get to work during these events, apart from teachers?

It's February, it's winter, it's the UK. Sometimes it gets cold, sometimes it snows! When did this become major news?!

I think they close the schools as a precaution as the mums in their 4x4's cannot manage the four hundred yards to drop their cherubs off without crashing during the school, run madness!

    Afternoon tards,

Cool here but sun shiney so I'm mincing around looking at the vast amount of jobs that should be getting done.

    True dat.

    Afternoon felchers,
Back at work today so been trawling through a mountain of shite, I seem to be winning at the moment but I'm aware that's an illusion that will be shattered some time soon. Cold and a bit blowy, the weather keeps making halfarsed attempts at snowing but it just keeps being blown around and nothing is settling. EPO is out tonight so a quiet night in for me.

Schools are normally closed because of problems with pupil transport, not because of teachers being unable to get in.

However, as this is The Crudcatcher: bloody teachers, can't be bothered to walk in, wasn't like it in my day, grumble, etc...

Riding to work through a large park after a heavy snow fall a few years back I came across a large group of people having a snowball fight, I asked if they worked at NPL which was nearby, they said they were teachers which proves it.

    Evening Wasters and Bacon Farmers,

A day of politicking has worn me out good and proper. I needed that sneaky after work drink or two but not too much as we have a big free night out tomorrow courtesy of our advisors who can smell my budget a mile away :)

    Morning twunts,

Woke up to no water so pipes are frozen, fortunately i got to the bog before the mrs! Temperatures are supposed to get into the positives so we look forward to the damage that may be left.

How are you enjoying your 'beast from the east' which I'm hoping is not a reference to a large foreign rent boy!! Nothing like a light dusting of snow to snarl up the roads.

Anyhoo, i doubt much will be getting done here today so move along

Morning travellers on the Hershey highway,
Strange white powder covering everything this morning and temperature reckoned it was -5. Had to wobble in as the Mrs needed the car first thing, quite enjoyed the ride. Maybe I should do more of this bicycling malarkey.
Looks like this plaice was too much for Fish² and his 'superior' intellect, shame.
Today is cake day which is always a good thing. Later I'll go and visit the pub to check it's still there.

I see what you did there. :)

    Afternoon, tea baggers.

Just back from another day with the big planes. A smattering of snow looks nice on them. It breaks up the drab grey.

No snow here. I want it to snow heavily so I can go and mince around Cwmcarn on a bike and be all heroic and stuff.

    Evening Bollock brains,

Made it into work and the free evening out with the advisors went ahead despite a few people bottling it and going home early. 6 course dinner and a glass of plonk with every course. I'm feeling a bit pissed now :)

    Afternoon, fudge nudgers.

-6.5degC on my ride last night. It took a fair while for the feeling to come back to my toes.

Also working from home today and I have actually done some work.

The snow here is very fluffy and as a result is being blown in to drifts. In some places the ground has no snow on it at all but in other places it is 6 or 7" deep.

The order of events for the rest of the day is grub, TV, play in the snow with the kids, grub, TV, bed. Coffee and tea will also feature. Sorted.

Afternoon residents of ice station uk,

Temperature here has got up to +12 so we now have water and last nights flurry of snow has long since done one, glad to see the Uk news with all the usual road snarl ups.

Onwards to foods and possible boozes.

    Afternoon snow shovellers,
Traditional Thursday mild hangover has passed. Not much else going on, it's still a bit chilly out and as bg mentions the country seems to have ground to a halt. Fairly quiet in the office as a result, think all of our customers have gone into hibernation.
