He was 9th in a stage of the Tour of Langkawi.

Abysmally, then...
Those results are shocking
Dreadful. I saw him step off on the 2nd time up to Ranmore Common during RideLondon and it just seemed to sum up his career for the last few years. Real pity. You don't win MSR and silver at the Worlds without having class. His confidence just fell through the floor and hasn't stopped falling.
He's announced his retirement today.

^That's actually pretty sad. Obviously has talent, shame to see a career peter out like that and end at 29.It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0

Speaking of retirement, Cameron Meir is also retiring to run his Girona coffee shops...0

Yesterday's ToB stage winner, Jack Bauer, is leaving Cannondale-Drapac at the end of the year. No news yet on where he's going but he's got a contract elsewhere.
Also, Mike Teunissen is leaving Lotto-Jumbo for Sunweb Giant Alpecin. He'll be a good addition to their classics squad.0 -
Gasparotto to Bahrain-Merida (from Wanty)0

Confirmed. Katusha are to be Swiss registered next year... No more Russian Cycling Project. Only five Russian riders.
Ekimov says Russian corporate don't have the cash to sponsor them (little surprise).0 -

Alpecin-Katusha. Looking forward to seeing Tony Martin and Zakarin doing ropy shampoo adverts next year. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -
According to CN Swift has offers from Bahrain, Dimension Data and Lampre. Really hope he doesn't go to Bahrain0
-
Following on from JackTar's post, panic stations at Qhubeka clearly as they don't have enough points...
And this bit had me chuckling... I'd quite fancy Purito "riding" for QhubekaCyclingnews has also learned that some of the teams still vying for a WorldTour licence have approached Joaquim Rodriguez. The veteran Spaniard is set to retire but his WorldTour points and his signature could be crucial. Teams could potentially sign him on a contract for next year even if he does not race a full programme0 -

BTW given that Lampre are now turning into the Chinese cycling project I trust that we'll get the same pitchforks out as for Bahrain. China's human rights track record is horrendous... far, far worse then Bahrain's.0 -

AFAIK the government is backing the team, but getting Chinese corporates to pay for it (Wang Jianlin being just one potential sponsor, they don't own TJ Sport). And the government has the bad HR record."The government decides everything and in our case it's the Ministry of Sport," Saronni explained.0 -

I'd be happy with that!0 -
You missed the jaw dropping moment from that CN article on Swift, he's being offered €500k per year. :shock:0

How come? Thought they were doing alright, but is a mere 5 tdf stages not enough?
It's because the points system is warped and doesn't reflect anything actual fans care about.0 -

But seriously, in a world where Bouhanni asks for a million is Swift on €500k that surprising? He does have two monument podiums (more than anyone else on sky)0 -

Your team needs to finish consistently high up to get points. So Cannondale have won much less than Qhubeka but they've got more top 10s and so have more points - I think that's how it works. It's a slightly surreal situation...0 -

Bouhanni has 51 pro wins, including 5 GT stages, to Swift's 15. He's also French so will always benefit from the rivalry between French teams to earn more.
I think Swift is a good rider, but he's never going to win as many races as Bouhanni.0 -

Bouhanni also signed his contract at a time when there was a dearth of riders of his calibre available - I particularly sprinters who are useful even when they don't cross the line first. He'll likely be taking a pay cut when he comes to look for a new contract.
Swift is looking for a ride at a time when two WT teams have folded.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -
Bonfazzio off despite having a contract with trek for next season0
