Nipped out of work to watch them ride by.

Must admit, enjoyed watching the Police organise the rolling road block almost as much as the cycling!

Just found out I won some VIP tickets for the start on Sunday, champagne breakfast, covered viewing, meet the riders etc. Going to take the wife and bambino, perfect start to my first Father's Day.

Seem to be lucky at these comps, won an Ettix comp last year to stay with the team that the hotel, meals with the riders then ride in the car at ToB.

Marianne was really cool & friendly when I fangirled her at the first Womens Tour after a stage, admittedly she had just won that stage so was obv quite happy anyway, but she was the only rider really who'd hung around to deal with fans and signed stuff and posed for lots of selfies, when she could have just wandered off

though I somehow managed to completely miss doorstepping anyone this year

The race goes past the top of my avenue during Stage 4. Looking forward to seeing them for the few seconds that they are there.

    Cowbells at the ready. :D

Well, it appears the slower girls were grovelling up Bank Road nearly as much as I do

The womens tour of britain has been a bit more interesting this year, better route with some nice climbs and some gutsy riding from Vosdroid, Borghini, Moolman and Lizzie Armistead (amongst others)

Lizzie Armistead has been suffering badly in Italy and after a crash had trouble holding her bars.

Doing some research on gender in cycling for a masters' assignment I'm doing.

Bit shocked there are still no UCI minimum pay levels for female pros!!

Big win for Mara Abbott today over the Mortirolo

    https://youtu.be/16z6DGFfU3c

Despite an early lead on the climb Emma Pooley is finding the return to top level women's cycling hard. She rolled in a very respectable 11th, 4 minutes down. Armistead was feeling better and came 19th, some 6 minutes behind. Molly Weaver is 45 on GC.

    Where did Dani King finish?

    Not racing in the giro.
  • Pooley was 2nd fastest up the toughest climb of this Giro Rosa

Descending has ALWAYS been her weakness - unsurprisingly. Also don't know whether she had any crashes on the descent to add to the mix, like Abbott, and Stevens (I think)

On the whole I suspect she (and BC) will be greatly encouraged / relieved by her climbing performance in this stage which is a clear indication that she's improving rapidly

    Stage 6

    https://youtu.be/lWALJRdhwNs

a hilly day with a couple of passes then an uphill climb to the finish.

Evelyn Stevens took the stage followed by Megan Guarnier who moves into the leader's jersey. Armistead in 12th over 6 minutes down on the leaders with the main bunch 22 minutes down.

Tomorrow is an ITT. Only the 9th stage offers any serious climbing with a small climb above Verbania to Bee (they'll be on my Strava segment for that I think) before a downhill finish.

2.5 million people watched RAI's coverage of the Giro Rosa yesterday live.

ITT today and Evelyn Stevens has taken her 3rd stage in the race from Albisola Superiore to Varazze beating Anna Van der Breggen and Elisa Longo Borghini by 4''
